great news about elisha gaining weight gracie, Rileigh is weighed on friday I cant wait to see if she has plumped up lol

Well I took the plunge today and have agreed to let mil have Rileigh for a couple of hours so I can go get ds his school uniform then next Saturday its my birthday so dp and I are going to try to go for a wee night out and my aunt is going to look after her but as she has a spare bedroom I can go back to hers and stay can't wait lol

becky we have had money gave to us too, we haven't been to open an account for her yet. Its amazing how seeing your dp/dh with the baby makes you love them more isnt it?

kk thats not too bad that you work from home, means you can still have ellie with you. Meant to ask how many ounce is the lo taking?

dh what advice did you get from the sleep thread? If I am honest I allowed ds to get into his own routine, Riliegh has kind of done it herself too. She falls asleep about 8ish feeds again about 10 then thats her until she wakes during the night. She will be a month old on Saturday and I have noticed she is far more awake now that she has been

memphis so glad you feel able to confide in the hv and like gracie I wasnt suggesting you hop on meds it was just what worked for me.

forgot to say yesterday congrats grumpy cant wait to hear your story, need info for the list

becky weve been given a lot of money too, got about 300 to put in account so far and we also bought one of those money boxes when i was 6 months gone that you have to smash, weve had his name put on it and we put £2 coins in it and my mum gives us a few each week, dh's biker friends all gave £20 for his bike fund! im determined he wont touch it til 21 though i blew mine at 17! his work mates also gave us 100 in mothercare vouchers as we dont need anything yet we will buy his walker and learning toys at x mas for him!
gracie thats brilliant that youve had weight gain lets hope it continues!!
dh weve always given lyndon his last feed at 9 then this week so he goes longer throught he night i dim light and change his nappy and try and get another ounce or 2 down him while half asleep before we go to bed at half 10
stac lyndon is a month on monday and he is so alert and awake more like rileigh, does she coo and make little noises yet?
went to mums tonight as dh is away he fed at half 5 and stayed awake til half 8, he always grizzles while i eat and it was great tonight my sis played with him and i got a roast dinner i didnt have torush to eat!! i went to pick up stuff from bike shop and was there about an hour while lyndon was with mum, i didnt feel too bad leaving him, was funny when i got back he had been sick all over her and was cooing at her lovingly while she was wiping herself down

memphis83 · 05/08/2010 07:11

grr little rant coming on... been up all night, Lyndon slept great only woke once 3 hooded bastards attempted to break into house with me in it alone with baby!!! think as out car and van werent outside they thought house was empty, im not ashamedto admit i called my mum to come and stay!! thank god our police are brilliant within 5 mins i had 12 policemen/women and sniffer dogs so very tired and annoyed and got a full on day visiting friend and hv coming later, hope you all have a good day and you all had good nights sleep, dh hope your night was better xxx

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/08/2010 08:30

God memphis how scary! Id do the same, get my mum over dont be ashamed.
Well Dylan slept from 11-3 then half 3 til half 5 but then didnt really settle again after that, he had big burps stuck in him!

Going to ring docs now to get an app for today, wish me luck! Really want to get contraception sorted today, dont trust condoms lol.

Going to the asda baby event later today too

Jojobil · 05/08/2010 09:32

Good morning! Congratulations Grumpy.

Sorry to hear about your morning Memphis. How awful

Lucky you Stac we've got no family here...

We have got quite a bit of money from my parents and FIL too. Which was very handy. I just ordered a Stokke highchair as they had a good deal on kiddicare.com much cheaper then everywhere else and the rest will go towards gates etc in a few months.

I gave Frank a dummy yesterday even though he is so good! Is just that when I need to make dinner or do something for DD it is easier. What a horrid mother am I? Anyway got him a NUK 0-6 one and just read on there website that theirs is the only teat approved by the British Dental Health Foundation and used in Great Ormond street hospital etc... Good to know as I would like to be able to express occasionally and I did not know which bottles to use... Anyone has experience with NUK? Frank took it in straight away by the way and does not take it much as he is calm anyway, but sucks on it sometimes when not in the mood for eating just sucking. He was 5 weeks on Tuesday so I hope it's not too early..

I am knackered as he wakes up a few times at night and then have DD to deal with in the day time so have not napped in days... I could do with a couple of hours a day. But over all it's great and I can not complain!

Hope you are all well. xxxx

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/08/2010 09:49

God my docs is stupid!! They open at half 8 sp I tried calling them then. didnt get through til 9 by which point they tell me that EVERY doc is fully booked today!
Going to try again tomoro but I bet I get the same response

stac14 · 05/08/2010 11:03

omg memphis thats terrible. Glad your mum came to stay you must have been so frightened. Rileigh is making lots of noises too, i am just amazed about how much she can do already

jojo you are not a horrible mother. If a dummy helps theres nothing wrong with it, we gave rileigh one the day after she was born. I am lucky to have family near but they can be a pain too lmao

dh thats ridiculous service by your gp, can you not see the nurse or do they have a family planning clinic?

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 05/08/2010 11:35

stac she said the nurse was available but I didnt know if she could give me a prescription for contraception and I didnt really want to ask the receptionist lol.
She then said she could pre-book for next fri but I want to try and get seen sooner if poss.

Jojobil · 05/08/2010 13:12

DH I am sure you could see the nurse and then she can sort out a prescription for you to pick up? It's worth a try instead of having to hang on the phone each morning.

Well I'm afraid I had to finally make the decision with our vet to put our 9 year old cat to sleep. I feel horrid, but I was told no one would rehome her and she has been going from worse to worse. She jumped into Franks moses and today whilst I was BF she jumped on the bed a feet next to me and was trying to make a number 2

I'm afraid to touch her as she is agressive and the vet said she is mentally unstable. We have tried Feliway and medications... Still feel awful.

stac14 · 05/08/2010 14:55

aww jo nothing worse than having to make this decision but if the vet says the cats unstable then you're better off doing what he says. I know its hard but you wouldnt want the cat hurting anyone. Really feel for you huni

dh our nurse gets the gp to do prescriptions for things but depending on what type of contraception you go for she has it on hand eg coil, implants so its worth checking out. X

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 05/08/2010 15:00

aw jojo sorry to hear that. tough decision to say the least and was very brave of you to make the right choice
memphis oh my god thats horrendous. did they break anything.you poor thing you must be in shock when you were by yourself.
stac she's taking different all the time. generally between 3.5 and 6! i've noticed the last couple of days she looks for the extra ounce after the 5 oz sometimes so i give her another one but then if she's sleeping longer at night her body is probably just taking more to save for the night? she went down at 12 last night and didnt wake til 8 this morn! and then took 4 oz and slept til half 1! she's a lazy sod! she's awake and alert now and kicking away on her play mat!
dh yeah just see the nurse and see if you can pick up a prescription. i had to get the morning after pill the other day! dont think i needed it but didnt want to take the chance! well done to dylan last night! he seems to be slowly but surely getting there.
chulita youe time will come too hun. and your doing the brilliant thing of breastfeeding which im not.
well ellie was VERY unsettled yesterday evening. really crying for a good while. i was thinking it might be something to do with her bcg injection yesterday? is it normal for them to be off form after it?

stac14 · 05/08/2010 15:25

kk they don't give the bcg till high school here but it is normal for them to be unsettled after jags. Rileigh did 10.30 to 3.30 then to 6 then 9 and 12 she has just fallen asleep again. I totally forgot how much they sleep lol. I started the mini pill last week and even though it was meant to be effective straight away we were a bit nervous going for it lol x

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 05/08/2010 16:45

kk morning after pill! Yeah we dont want anymore babies just yet lol.

Ill call tomoro and if theres no docs ill see if I can see the nurse. They're supposed to have a family planning service there but dont know anything about it and their website doesnt help.

I had a good day with my friend but Im so tired now, Dylan is feeding but really need to have a nap soon.

Spirael · 05/08/2010 17:33

Afternoon all! Sounds like things are going ok for most people, though I'm sorry to hear about your traumatic night, memphis!

Your doctors surgery sounds a bit like mine, DesperateHousewife. It was great while I was pregnant, as I made each MW appointment at the end of the previous one so never had any problems. Getting an appointment to see a doctor though is a PITA, you can only book on the day or one week ahead, and by the time you get through on the phone, all the appointments are gone.

I need to make the 6 week check appointment sometime the week after next... Not really looking forward to trying to make the appointment! I got signed off by the MWs last Friday, so apparently I don't need to see anyone until the 6 week check unless I feel I need to, so it'll be around three weeks with no-one checking up on us. I'm not sure if I feel abandoned or liberated.

Things are still going fine here. Mindy had settled into a pattern of feeds at 9pm, 1am, 4am then 7am... But last night she went from 9pm to 3am then 7am! She's also been a lot calmer during today, she's feeding for only around 20-30 minutes but lasting 2-3 hours before the next go, instead of feeding for an hour then wanting more an hour later!

I'm hoping we've turned a corner now and she's starting to extract milk more efficiently and go longer between feeds. But even if it was just a one off respite day, that's ok too as I'm managing to keep up with her and feel much more recharged after the good night of sleep we had.

I'm impressed at those of you needing contraception. I told DH there's no chance he's getting anywhere near me at present! But I had to have a fair number of internal stitches, so want to make sure I'm entirely healed up in there first.

Besides, I figure it's all fair... I was making interested noises during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters but DH shot me down as he was a bit weirded out by the bump.

memphis83 · 05/08/2010 18:19

spireal thank goodness i thought i was the only one who wasnt up for sex!! im like you internal stitches!! they said 5 weeks for the internal ones to heal for me but to be honest i cant see it being anytime soon after that! also the same with my dh weirded out by bump!
dh my doc has walk in contraceptive clinic 3 afternoons a week cant believe your docs! thats brilliant with Dylans sleeping i went to see my friend who is bfing today her boy is 8 weeks and she said it took 5 weeks for him to settle almost like he was still adjusting to outside the bump!
kk they didnt break anything they tried the shed but its like a prison i wouldnt envy anyone trying to get into there.
jojo hope your ok, youve clearly thought about it long and hard and tried other options of trying to rehome your cat, i hope your ok.

Spirael · 05/08/2010 19:02

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not alone too, memphis! It's kinda hazy, but I think I was told to wait until after the 6 week check before letting DH near me, but the MW was stitching me up at the time and I'd had no pain relief, so I was a bit zoned out!

One thing I forgot to mention earlier... I can now add 'In the middle of Betty's Tea Room' to the list of places I've breastfed. Never too young to introduce DD to high society, eh? Though perhaps I lowered the tone by feeding her, while eating my sandwich by hand instead of using a knife and fork... [heathen]

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/08/2010 20:55

spirael its the same with me, I need to make my 6 week app sometime next week, I think I might physically go down there at half 8 in the morning, they cant ignore me if Im standing there!

Gave Dylan a bath earlier, he really loves them! I used some johnsons baby oil and his skin is so lovely and soft now
Hes still got really bad nappy rash though, have been using the cream.
stac I would have used the eggs but DP had bought the cream anyway!

munchkinland · 05/08/2010 21:29

hi all,
at last a chance to get on here although excuse any mistakes, i am bfing at the same time!!
So, Georgia Beatrice was born at 3.41am August 1st (can I still be in the July gang?? I am only a couple of hours out)

She is an absolute doll, and so well behaved. My Mum swore by routine, and I took her advice with dd1, which worked a dream so doing the same this time round and Georgia pretty much feeding for around 40 mins to an hour [with a few prods and pokes to keep her awake] every 4 hours. I do sometimes have to keep her entertained by changing nappies/ singing songs while rocking her etc. and have also used a dummy (even though I am bfing and she is only 5 days old - sooooooooo against "the rules" )

Will pop back on when I have two hands and do my birth story.
Hope you are all doing well

viksam · 05/08/2010 22:26

Hi all
I'm sat here watching Devon falling asleep. They are sooo sweet when they fall asleep by them selves. I'm nowhere near a routing, he's two weeks old today, and I'm seriously contemplating giving up BF I'm so so sore and I feel like I can't cuddle him properly coz its so painfull if I brush my nipples. I went to BF support group and of course we behaved beautifully there matching on with out the nipple shield but once home I can go with out in one side but still have to use it in the other. I just feel like I have been kicked in the boobs, its no good. But I sooo wanted to. I'm doing this on my phone so I'm making it short, and all about me. Sorry. If I get a chance ill post my birth story too, haven't do that yet. Hope everyone happy. Xxx

Jojobil · 06/08/2010 08:48

Just thought I will share this Green Baby has a ridiculously good sale now on their organic cotton baby clothes. I just got some lovely socks and shorts and t-shirts for Frank for peanuts. :) www.greenbaby.com/Green+Baby+Products/baby/BABY+SALE/list.htm

Jojobil · 06/08/2010 08:50

Oh and congrats Munchkin and thank you girls for making me feel better about my cat. I think ones we finally made the decision it feels right... However awful it sounds.

memphis83 · 06/08/2010 09:04

munchkin congrats on LO!
spireal ooh i say, bettys tea rooms! we took Lyndon to Mrs Bridges tearoom but he slept whole time we were there, weve been 3 times since i had him as at the end of my pregnancy i needed a toilet on hand all the time and i couldnt fit in there toilet for my bump so making up for it now!!

HV came yesterday, Lyndon is not 9 pound 2oz!! she gave me some info books on emotions after pregnancy and we had a chat im going to keep going to clinic for a few weeks to be seen. after i went to my friends and her 8 week old is already in 3-6 month clothes! he is huge, Lyndon is still in newborn clothes and as we expected him to be a big baby we didnt buy loads of newborn so she gave us vests and some outfits with tags still on that will expand his wardrobe without spending, she also gave us a wrap pappoose as the tomy one we bought is way to big for him.

weird thing happened yesterday, Lyndon was sick all down my chest for the 1st time and i have come up in a really nasty swollen rash!!!

Spirael · 06/08/2010 09:40

Morning all! :) I hope everyone is doing well today.

Congratulations munchkin on the belated but safe arrival of Georgia! Grin Was the 1st August the cut off for the higher CTF amount?

Don't give up, viksam! You can do it! :) Mindy is virtually 1 month now and for the past week or so I've finally been able to wrap my towel over my chest after showering, so hopefully it'll get better for you too. Before that I had my towel around my waist and the top half exposed. Blush

Always wear nice padded breast pads, they help. Also drown you nipples in Lansinoh before and after feeds. When I find one side is sore (left at present...) I use my pump on that side for a day to give it a chance to heal. And if worst comes to worst, take a painkiller or two a short while before the feed.

I think Mindy will be in 3-6 months clothes before too long, memphis. Confused She's so tall that the 0-3 months are only just long enough for her! They're all really baggy for width though.

Well, we had another good night. Grin Straight to sleep at 10pm, woke at 3am for food and a change, then straight back to sleep and I had to wake her up for breakfast at 7:30am!

No cluster feeding yesterday evening, nor this morning! She even let me leave her in the safe sleeper for 40 mins while she was awake so I could tidy the kitchen, load the dishwasher and start some laundry.

Crossing my fingers that this is a corner turned now she's a bit older and bigger, so I'm not glued to her during waking hours quite so much.

Though I think it's more to do with the fact that I picked this up the other day, to make my long hours of feeding easier!

Chulita · 06/08/2010 11:24

Keep going viksam! I'm in the same boat, my nipples, especially the right one, are agony, wearing bras hurts so much, latching on feels like a razor blade slicing through me, then afterwards it burns for hours right through to pain in my back. Just like spirael I have to wrap my towel under my boobs cos I just can't have it over them...pain, pain, pain! It does get better, it really, really does and it's soooo worth it once you clear the first few weeks. I swore to tough it out for 6 weeks and if it's still bad I'd stop. With DD it got better at 8 weeks but it does get better and easier, I promise!

Gracie123 · 06/08/2010 12:07

Congratulations on baby Georgia! Beautiful name.

Ladies, the pain you are describing does seem a little extreme (although MW did point out to me that DC2 is always easier than DC1) my boobs are settling down after only 2 weeks. If it's not getting better I think you should a) get HV to check your latch and b) see GP. It might be that you have thrush. It can be extremely painful and the 'razor blades' you mention at let down have only happened to me when I was experiencing thrush.

If it is, insist that they treat both you and baby. There is no point only treating one of you as you just pass it back and forth between you all the time.
