My brother is dying

We have been told he may have 2 days, and day 1 is quickly disappearing.
I just feel so numb, he has us all around him in the hospital right now and we are just waiting for the inevitable.

I don’t know why I’m writing this, maybe for a handhold or for someone to tell me what I can expect over the next few hours?

My parents are dozing on and off but they look so broken.

is is only 50, cancer fucking sucks

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your brother sounded like a lovely, gentle soul. I'm glad that his death was peaceful and that you were with him, it might not seem so now, but that will give you some comfort in the weeks to come.

I hope you and your parents have people who can help and support you during the next few months. I wish you peace and healing.

StartupRepair · 22/03/2025 02:44

I am so sorry. Go gently in the next few days weeks and months. Remember everyone will be very raw and it is easy to hurt and be hurt as you navigate decisions about funeral etc.
He sounds like a lovely brother. This will be so hard for your DC but they will learn from you how to navigate grief.

Alliscalmallisnotbright · 22/03/2025 12:55

May your brother rest in eternal peace @rainbowlou . He died surrounded by love and that is the best thing we can provide for our loved ones in their final moments.

My beloved dad hung on for 20 hours after I got there (I live many hours away from my family) and I don’t know how he kept going but my SIL told me that dad loved to be surrounded by his family and was just soaking up his last moments of us all together and that brings me great joy whenever I think of it.

much love to you, please make sure you eat and drink over the next few days as it is easy to get consumed by looking after everyone else x

minnienono · 22/03/2025 12:57

Hugs op to you and all your family and his friends. Very tough loosing someone so young and for parents to loose a child is difficult beyond words. Take help and support that is offered and remember in the night there’s always someone here to talk to. Too many others do unfortunately know exactly what you are going through. Finally don’t forget that the hospital chaplain team are there for you whatever your faith or none, they are excellent at both listening and have practical experience of next steps which can feel overwhelming.

neilyoungismyhero · 22/03/2025 12:58

So very sorry for your loss. X

WaffleParty · 22/03/2025 13:00

I am so sorry. My brother died when my children were very little, but they have very clear memories of him and I see him in small ways in both of them.
Your brother sounds like a lovely man.

ohfourfoxache · 22/03/2025 13:30

Oh sweetheart, I’m so, so sorry Sad

Nothing is going to make this better, it’s gutting to think of you going through this (I lost my mum in August). The only thing you can do is to take each second as it comes (a minute might feel insurmountable, and that’s ok) x

Missmaria123 · 22/03/2025 13:31
