and unlikely to survive
she is in hospital on a BiPap and it probably will be taken off tomorrow as it is not helping.
We (the family) are preparing for the worst to happen very soon

Great news!

Hopefully, one of the ward staff will be able to point her in the direction of an NHS stop smoking clinic. She may be able to get nicotine patches free or on prescription. A friend of mine quit this way, it's really worked well for her.

Agree with LL about the cold turkey. There should be no cold turkey till Boxing Day

How is it going Spooky?

SpookyMadMummy · 27/12/2007 11:13

Hi all

Mum is doing well, still on a medical ward. Still on oxygen and one or two other meds through drips (antibiotics I am presuming)

She spent Christmas day in hospital and apparently it wasn't so bad! My stepdad came here and had breakfast with us Christmas day then went to my sister's to take her and my nephew to the hospital. They ended up having their dinner near on 5pm!

I went Christmas eve with the children for half an hour and again yesterday, She is in good spirits and looking forward to coming home.

She talked to my Dh about smoking while I went and got coffee, and says she cannot guarantee she will never have another cigarette but he has told her to accept help that is offered in order to succeed in packing up.

Ironically on Christmas eve it was 7 years since I packed up!

Well done on giving up smoking Spooky. And wonderful news about your mum, hope she continues to improve.
Try and get some prayer cover for her, here and in RL as this will be the best thing you can get het by way of help.

She got home a couple of hours ago!

I have custody of her lighter and the remaining fags are destined for destruction

That's wonderful news SMM. Will be praying for protection from cravings and strength to withstand them when they come.
God bless you both and both your families
