and unlikely to survive
she is in hospital on a BiPap and it probably will be taken off tomorrow as it is not helping.
We (the family) are preparing for the worst to happen very soon

Hi all

Good news all round tonight!!!

Dd1 NOT admitted to hosp, instead she has antibiotics, antibiotic and steroid eardrops and an appointment in the new year.

Mum, well. I am going to see her shortly, but stepdad tells me that shes made remarkable progress today she may even be on a normal ward by the time I get there tonight

I could not have got through the last few days without the support of Mumsnet, Minimins and my good friends on my MSN list.

thank you all

Great to hear your mum's so much better, and your dd isn't being admitted to hospital too.

Heifer · 21/12/2007 17:38

Spooky! - so sorry I have missed all this! only just got back online after my move..

I am glad that you found loads of support from MN, they are not a bad bunch really...

And really pleased that H didn't need to stay in hospital right now..

If you need to chat etc just let me know, maybe my bovine humour can help just a little bit - unfortunately not on broad band at the mo, so not online much, but if I see you around I will say hi,

Take care, and remember to take some time out for you also..

WanderingHolly · 23/12/2007 10:17

How's your mum today, Spooky?

SpookyMadMummy · 23/12/2007 11:11

Hi all

Mum is at last on a normal medical ward! to say that this time last week we were preparing for the worst its a remarkable turn around.

I hope and pray that she learns from this and gives up the cigarettes for good, as they have been a major contributing factor in her illness.

Yesterday she had a bit of a wobble, her blood sugar dropped quite low (Mum is an insulin dependent diabetic) and her blood pressure also dropped. HDU staff kept a close eye on her hence her discharge to medical ward was delayed by 24 hours.

Dd1 is much better too. Theres still a swelling behind her ear, but it feels soft to the touch so it appears to be under the skin rather than in the bone and the antibiotics are doing their job.

Looks like we will have a good Christmas after all!!
All the presents are wrapped, the tree is up and decorated and the Dd's are waiting for the man in the funny red suit

that is fantastic news, you must all be so relieved. what a turn around... i do hope that she gives up the cigarettes this time, one would hope coming so close to death would give her the impetus she needs..... i hope she continues to recover.

DutchOmainapeartree · 23/12/2007 12:17

Oh SMM what a relief. Does your mum know we have been praying for her? I'll pray now that she will give up smoking, but it will be hard for her. Maybe being in hospital will help.

SpookyMadMummy · 23/12/2007 12:30

Dutch - Yes she does. I told her that most of Cyberspace were watching over and praying for a good recovery! I think you all again for your messages, thoughts and prayers XX

SpacecadetLovesChristmas · 23/12/2007 16:14

thats fantastic news Spooky, your mum has some serious fighting spirit, what a fab christmas pressie for you all

TenLordsaLapin · 23/12/2007 16:15

Excellent news Spooky!

Is your mum a very heavy smoker? I know you want her to give up but I'd caution against her going cold turkey - my dad did, having been a 40 a day man for over 40 years, and he was very unwell - the GP said his body just couldn't cope with the withdrawal shock. So slowly and steadily is the way forward. Hopefully she'll want to give up now .

Happy Christmas!
