and unlikely to survive
she is in hospital on a BiPap and it probably will be taken off tomorrow as it is not helping.
We (the family) are preparing for the worst to happen very soon

your mum sounds like a fighter spooky thinking of you

SpookyMadMummy · 17/12/2007 17:59

Back from visiting.
the chest specialist doctor has been to see her and she is now receiving steroids to strengthen her chest (hopefully)
She is still confused but she is talking in sentences, albeit repetitive.
She is still on the BiPap machine

So glad to hear there has been a slight improvement in your mum's condition, Spooky.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 17/12/2007 19:56

Good news Spooky, it seems like she is made of strong stuff xx

SpookyMadMummy · 18/12/2007 12:08

No improvement as such this morning.
Mum came off the BiPap machine for a couple of hours this morning and held her own which is good news.
The doctors were saying something about damage to her heart but tbh I was expecting that anyway.
Its still a long way to go and still we are unsure that she will pull through.
My stepfather utterly blames himself. I am propping him up at the moment which is obviously something I don't need, but what can I do?
I am exhausted and having a day off from visiting although I have phoned a couple of times today. I will see her tomorrow.

Spooky, Just found this thread
Sorry to hear your Mum is not so well today.
My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.

frostythesnowmum · 19/12/2007 10:29

Is she in hdu or the normal ward spooky?
3 weeks bfore my wedding my fil was in a similar condition and we were expecting the worse but he was well enough to even have one dance with his wife at my wedding. Please don't loose hope miracles happen.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/12/2007 10:30

Oh Spooky, it's like a bloody rollercoaster isn't it? You daren't hope, then things take a turn for the better, so you raise your spirits and hope, then things take a downwards turn again.

But don't stop having hope, the energy you put into hope will carry you through this difficult time xx

SpookyMadMummy · 19/12/2007 10:50

Frosty she is still on HDU.
I am in a rollercoaster at the moment. Its very hard dealing with all this,.
To top it all off my Dd1 came down with another ear infection overnight so I have had a pretty sleepless night and an early trip to the docs this morning.

spooky i am thinking of you

wish there was something more practical i could do or say or offer to you.

it is a nightmare scenario, waiting for the phone to ring, being on tenterhooks, trying to be strong for those around you

(((((((((((((spooky))))))))))))))))

SpookyMadMummy · 19/12/2007 18:11

Mum is slightly improved on the confusion front, but on the whole theres no change.
She has been put on meds to open her airways and her oxygen reduced by almost half.
She was chatty when I went, but the confusion was still evident.

camillathechicken · 19/12/2007 19:02

aPartridgeInapAeroTree · 19/12/2007 19:18

Sorry to read this Spooky.

SpookyMadMummy · 20/12/2007 19:01

Update
I called the hospital earlier. Mum is fairly bright but still confused. The good news is that she has been off the BiPap for a good 8 hours today From one hour to 8 is quite some jump!
Obv. she remains critical although we are more hopeful now considering todays progress.
Dd1's ear is still swollen and sore, and I am taking her to hospital tomorrow for the ENT's to have a look at it, I just need her not to have to stay in now and that'll make my Christmas. I know Mum won't be home, but Dd1 not having to have surgery will make me a very happy Spooky.
