Funeral songs etc needed for our baby

Our beautiful baby boy died at 5 days old yesterday we are completely lost.

This is actually DH's first funeral and today also marks the due date of our other baby who I MMC end of last year.

We have a 2 year old son; I was considering using songs that he likes but DH said he doesn't want DS to associate his favourite things with grief.

Also what else do we need to consider? We will be contacting a funeral director today.

So sorry for your devastating loss. Be kind to yourself
You'll never walk alone is a family funeral song for us. Thanks

Thank you all so much for the songs and loving words.

I've been up, clueless how to deal with this grief, most of the night but then this thread helped. I've gone through and listened to the songs and read the poems.

I've made a list (about 15 songs...) for DH to listen to and decide what he would like.

I am so sorry to read about all your losses too Flowers it's heartbreaking to think how many people have to go through this or similar.

It's so hard to choose isn't it. I spent hours and hours looking for music, flowers etc
I just needed to get it right and it kept me busy.
My son was a lot older than yours but I chose When I see you again by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth as it was appropriate for his age group and musical taste. It also wasn't the type of song I'd hear in my everyday surroundings.
One year later to the day of my sons death I was sat in a little cafe trying to hold it all together and this song came on .. strangely I saw it as a sign to be strong from him.
Whatever you choose it will be from your heart x

I am so very sorry for the loss of your baby.
I love this poem.

The night was dark when he went away, and they slept.
The night is dark now, and I call for him, "Come back, my
darling; the world is asleep; and no one would know, if you came
for a moment while stars are gazing at stars."
He went away when the trees were in bud and the spring was
young.
Now the flowers are in high bloom and I call, "Come back, my
darling. The children gather and scatter flowers in reckless sport.
And if you come and take one little blossom no one will miss it."
Those that used to play are playing still, so spendthrift is
life.
I listen to their chatter and call, "Come back, my darling,
for mother's heart is full to the brim with love, and if you come
to snatch only one little kiss from her no one will grudge it."

by Rabindranath Tagore

When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2. (I have sung that at a couple of kids’ funerals and I don’t think I could do it again.) It’s perfect. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

Hi, I'm so sorry. Honestly, I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and heartache you are experiencing right now. I lost my niece a couple of months ago age 10, and at her funeral, 'Goodnight my Angel' by Billy Joel was played. It's beautiful. Hope you're dealing with it OK.

TwittleBee · 08/07/2019 05:24

Really appreciating all your kind words and the suggestions. Thank you.

We've settled on Wings by Birdy and Let me Go by Gary Barlow. We also think we would like The Invisible Cord read. I'm also thinking about maybe blowing bubbles when we leave, I've in my head it might be nice for DS1 to see loads of bubbles and I think trying to blow bubbles might encourage me to regulate my breathing through the tears.

I really want something read that's been personally written by me and DH but we can't even begin to write something down together without breaking down.

We are seeing the Funeral director and having a tour of the crematorium on Tuesday as well as picking out a wreath for his coffin. We've decided to keep it simple on flowers and suggest people make a donation to the NICU that looked after him

Does the Funeral director organise the Order of Service booklet things?

We had some beautiful images captured by the charity Remember My Baby of our little boy that we plan to use in them.

We the kings “sad song “ the lyrics are beautiful and fitting. So sorry you’re having to make this decision. Heartbreaking for you and your family xx

MrsGaryLightbody · 08/07/2019 08:17

You can do the order of service yourself online or as I did with help of a local printer. I sent him photos and poems plus insisted that a sunflower was used in the decor. He put it together and sent me drafts to approve. It really was t that expensive and it gave me control and something to keep my mind busy.
Xx
