At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

So sorry. Holding you and your family in my thoughts.

Wheredidmyyouthgo · 08/07/2012 13:14

Expat, I cannot imagine the weight of your loss. You and brave Aillidh have been in my heart for months. I am writing this in tears, and I know my words are inadequate. With prayers and strength for you and your family, but above all with love and sorrow on this saddest of days xxx

perfumedlife · 08/07/2012 13:14

Oh expat, this is the saddest day. I woke with puddles in my ears from tears in my sleep. I can't be on the Anthony Nolan register due to health issues but I have willed my body to medical science in the hope it makes some difference in future.

I've never been so affected by the death of someone I don't 'know' in the old sense. But I do feel I know your girl now. And what a girl! You must be so proud of what she achieved and how she fought. The pain of being without her must be unimagninable and if I can do anything atall for you, please say as I am in Glasgow.

lots of love expat, to you and yours x

in a blessed falling asleep, grant, O Lord, eternal rest unto Thy departed servant Aillidh and make her memory to be eternal

Macarooned · 08/07/2012 13:15

I am very sorry, I have been watching the thread for Aillidh, and have been thinking of you. My little 3 year old son died in March suddenly, so I can understand some of what you will be feeling today. I will be thinking of you, and please know that when you are struggling and upset that I am too, so you don't need to feel alone xx

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 08/07/2012 13:16

One night I had a dream--
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints,
one belonged to me and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life.
This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way,
but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
"I don't understand why in times when I needed you most,
you should leave me."
The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never, never leave you
during your times of trial and suffering.
"When you saw only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

May the Lord carry you and your family at this sad time, heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your very special daughter Aillidh, we have been praying hard in the rabid household and will continue to do so, your daughter was truly a brave and inspirational little girl with the heart of a lion, it has been a privilege to be allowed to shear in her journey I only wish the outcome had not been this one
God bless you.
