At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

Oh expat, I'm so truly sorry that you are feeling the worst pain possible. If only there was something we could do to alleviate it.

You must be wonderfully proud that your beautiful girl's bravery brought so many people together in love and prayer; her cheeky smile touching the hearts of us all.

Safe journey little Aillidh. xxxx

Calyx · 08/07/2012 12:53

I am so sorry and pray she is at peace, happy and watching over you and the rest of the family and friends. I haven't words to tell you how I feel for you. I was glad to be able to pray, light candles and help Giraffes with a lift last week, my sister and I were grateful to help a tiny bit and I am crying for your loss today.

I have a geranium on my balcony and it's the first plant I ever had that lived. I named it Ailidh last week. This morning it has huge buds about to flower and I pray for you all every time I see it, I always will. God bless you and your family Expat xxx

Desperately sorry Expat

madmouse · 08/07/2012 13:04

You've been on my mind all morning while I was in church. DH currently ministers in a very old fashioned church where they like to sing old hymns, but this morning they were grounding and strengthening ones, reminding us how God has travelled with us through the ages. That made me think even more of you. I pray that you can hold on to your faith and feel God near you, because sometimes unimaginable pain can cloud these things.

And as for Aillidh, what a girl, what a trooper, what a star. All day yesterday I had an image of her running into Jesus' arms. Her smile will be brightening up heaven x
