At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

Again, I'm so very, very sorry, expat. You don't know me but we have a friend in common and I've been appreciating your posts on here for years. I want to salute you for your enormous dignity and courage. What a mother you have been to your precious girl. My heart is so heavy for you all and I will not stop sending love and strength in your direction. If knowing that you and your dear family are cared about by very many people makes living through the time ahead the smallest bit more bearable then I will be so glad.

PollyLogos · 08/07/2012 12:29

I am so very sorry.

In time you will be comforted by the fact that your family has touched lives and been a boost to the bone marrow donation team. When you can read these threads you'll see the world was holding it's breath for your Aillidh.

Now, you just need to keep breathing for your family.

lookout · 08/07/2012 12:34

So sorry Expat. What a brave girl your daughter has been. I know how it feels to lose someone too young, but can't imagine how it feels to lose a child. My family and I have been praying and will continue to pray for you and your family. Aillidh is resting safe in the perfect peace of God.

I weep for your beautiful, long limbed girl. I don't know you - although I know of you (I am on old timer). Yet I feel such a great sense of sorrow for you and Aillidh's Dad and siblings - as do countless others here on MN and around the world.

God Bless you all now and in the coming days and months. Most especially I hope that Aillidh is at peace. I will never forget her.
