At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

Just thought I'd tell you - I saw expat on Monday and they're doing as well as you could hope. Its horrendous, but they are coping for the other little ones, they still need your prayers for strength to cope. But expat is an inspiration. Imso proud to be her friend!!

Alameda · 19/07/2012 00:18

thanks weegiemum, they are in my thoughts a lot and I know I'm not the only one here

wish could do something other than submit a dodgy square for their blanket :(

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 19/07/2012 00:18

Just popping by to let you know that I'm still thinking of you. I think it's hard to feel like everyone is just going back to their normal lives when your own is turned upside down... so I think it's important just to let you know that's not the case - I'm still thinking about you all and sending lots of love & strength x

weegiemum · 19/07/2012 00:38

Every positive thought is good - for expat and also for giraffes who has been a nit scary silent.

Saw expats dh today, he's a tower of strength but close to breaking at the loss of his dd. It's such a tragedy.

bumpybecky · 19/07/2012 01:09

Still thinking of you all.

Giraffes, we know you're hurting too. Don't keep that hidden.

StealthPolarBear · 19/07/2012 06:54

Thakns weegiemum.
Chipping, that's what I wanted to say. Life is going on "as normal" for most of us, but Ailidh is still always in my mind.

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 19/07/2012 07:35

Still thinking of you. I wish it hadn't had to be because she is gone but because she was still fighting.
Giraffes, don't forget that we are here for you too.
Much love elephants x

Sending you my love xxx

mumat39 · 20/07/2012 00:51

Lots of love to you and your amazing Family and to Giraffes too.

The facebook update made me smile. There was a prayer on one of the threads about I am not gone, I am the wind, or words to that effect. I read things like that and really hope and cling on to the idea. It's such a lovely thought that it really did make me smile. And, Expat, you have an amazing way with words. xxx

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 20/07/2012 06:08

I keep seeing this thread and I just don't know what to say. There are simply no words that will help ease the loss of a child.

I've been lighting candles with my prayers and at church. I know the pain is so very raw, I hope you can find some sort of solace in te=he fact how much we all genuinely care Expat.

WheresMyCow · 20/07/2012 07:56

Still thinking of you all and sending love and strength your way x
