At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

Mintyy · 16/07/2012 20:32

Sad expat.

I fervently hope that in time her last 60 days will not haunt you. She was still with you in those 60 days and although the quality of her life was greatly reduced and you were all suffering, she was present. And she would have many moments of great joy and happiness amongst it all.

pumpkinsweetie · 16/07/2012 20:35

Sad, thinking of you Expat x

KristinaM · 16/07/2012 20:35

No they wont expat. They will fill your thoughts just now to the point that you think they will consume you. But you are still in shcok and traumised by what you have all been through. I have been there and know how truly awful it is. things too terrible to write here.

But over the next weeks and months you will be able to remember more of Aillidhs life, not her death. As you look at photos and videos of her and talk about her with A and the kids, you will force yourself to remember the happy times, the years of happiness not the months of illness. You WILL do this. Because the children deserve to rememberher well and whole, bursting with life and energy. The real Aillidh.

You can do this. Look how you fought for her life. Now you will fight to get through this.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 16/07/2012 20:37

Oh Expat. Sad

You, your family and friends and the medical team did all that you could to help Aillidh through those 60 days, and all the others since that awful diagnosis was made.

I do hope that those days don't haunt you forever. Aillidh is a very lucky girl to have you as her Mum.

X x

MikeLitoris · 16/07/2012 20:37

Aillidh knew you loved her for every second of those 60 days.

I can only hope the good memories out weigh the bad in time.

crazynanna · 16/07/2012 20:40

My heart and thoughts are with you expat, xx
