In memory of our lovely Aillidh

At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

I attended the interment this morning. The service at the graveside was simple and lovely. I hope it was a confort to leigh , andrew and everyone who loves Aillidh. It was at the top of the cemetry with lovely views over the hills. Thankfully the heavy rain of recent weeks was nowhere to be seen.

Only family flowers ( as leigh had requested)-single red roses with messages of love. Leigh was supported by many friends. Im sure she will also feel the love and support from the many other mumsnetters who would have been there if they could, and who held them all in their thoughts and prayers today.

Thank you for letting us know, KristinaM. I'm glad the sun shone on this family who have endured so much.

JustFabulous · 14/07/2012 20:55

It sounds like it was a beautiful ceremony even though the reason for it is so heart breaking.

rachelfruitloop · 14/07/2012 21:02

I have thought about Aillidh and her family all day. Hopefully all of her loved ones can find some peace and comfort through this difficult time. I'll never forget Aillidh. Big hugs to you Expat. x

bumblebeader · 14/07/2012 21:04

I'm so sorry for your loss. x

mumat39 · 14/07/2012 21:34

KristinaM, that does sound beautiful.

I waited for the rain to stop this morning but it didn't, so I took my DC out in raincoats and wellies to blow some bubbles for Aillidh. Just after we started the rain stooped and the sun shone. Have been thinking about the Expat family and Aillidh all day. Thank you for letting us know.

xxx

BustersOfDoom · 14/07/2012 21:56

Sounds like a lovely ceremony KristinaM

I've been thinking about them all day and wishing Aillidh's loved ones strength, love and peace to get through today. And I know we will all be wishing them that tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that ad infinitum.

FranticBanana · 14/07/2012 22:11

There's a candle lit here this evening for Aillidh and her family. May she rest in peace. X

Have been thinking of you all very much. x

catinboots · 15/07/2012 03:24

I floated some Gerberas (sp?) in our stream at the end of our garden this morning.

My heart broke for Expat and her family. She is an amazing woman. Her posts on here and on FB are so beautiful and full of dignity.

Does anyone have a link to the water/flower thread so I can post my picture?

catinboots · 15/07/2012 03:37

I opened my purse today and smiled from ear to ear when I saw my Anthony Nolan donor card. That is Aillidh's legacy. Her beautiful but short life has helped to save the lives of many others.

It would never have occurred to me to join the register if i did not know of Aillidh's plight.

Her spirit will live on for eternity - not only in the people who loved her; but also in the hearts of the strangers (and their families) whose lives she has saved

Wow expat. I know nothing can ease your pain. But you really had a miraculous daughter who has made an indelible mark on this world.

Rest in peace sweet angel. Xx

sharklet · 15/07/2012 05:41

Expat, We thought of you and your family today. We went up into the Paiute reservation in the Spring mountains in Nevada, we went for a walk and we released a pink balloon into the sky for Aiillidh. DD sang her a song and blew kisses. We never met her but she has made a big impact on us. We will be registering with Anthony Nolan when we are back in the UK. Her light has truly shone all over the world.

Sending love to all of you x

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 15/07/2012 06:56
