In memory of our lovely Aillidh

At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

Hugs for Giraffes,
A child doesn't have to be our child to leave footprints on our heart. xxx

Oh I am so sad and so sorry to read this. Heartbroken for you and your family, Expat. Life makes so little sense.

Aillidh is in our thoughts and we're all here for you xxx

LineRunner · 09/07/2012 00:00

So sorry Expat. x

AuldAlliance · 09/07/2012 00:08

I have written and erased so many words.
There are none to encompass this.
I am so terribly sorry that Aillidh lost her brave fight, and that you are left with this gaping, aching loss.

You know what I love about Aillidh, if you told her about a place she would say "I would like to go there...when I am all better can we go there?"

Not "I want to go there", it was always "I would like to go there" in a lovely way.

I so so wanted to take her swimming to the flumes, she had picked her costume - pink with flowers and butterflies and pink goggles. And to the soft play, the one in the vidoes I showed her.

Leigh I know she truley believed one day she would get to do all these things, and the many more you spoke about with her. And her dreams of them were helpful to her. x

Expat, I am so sorry. I hate cancer with every bone in my body. After dear sweet Olivia only the other week and now your wonderful girl too, my heart is just aching for you and I can't hold the tears. Sending you love from another leukaemia family and lots of hugs. I know nothing can make this right but we are thinking of you and wishing you were not going through this pain.

ZeroFucksGiven · 09/07/2012 01:20

Just saw the most recent fb update an am again in floods of uncontrollable sobs, crying in to my pillow. An again am feeling like a fraud as my heartache is not a patch on yours.

A thought has just hit me. I don't know how I hadn't thought of this before now. I have just realised that on top of losing your beautiful, sweet daughter you have been face with the task of explaining this to your other two children.

No mother should ever have to go through this and again I'm so so sorry, I just don't have the words Sad

Solo · 09/07/2012 01:21

So sorry expat.

Hold tight to your faith, hold tight to your family and let them hold you tight and Our Lord...He holds you tight in His arms.

God bless you expat and family and God speed Aillidh to your place with the angels in Heaven. Your work here was done and God called you back ~ too soon for all of us on Earth, but you have taught the world so very much during your short life and made a huge difference to so many.

Rest in peace sweet child.x

MmeBucket · 09/07/2012 03:40

Expat, you have just been through every parent's worst nightmare, there are no words to convey how our heart aches for you and your family and how much we wish there was something we could have done to help. Thank you for letting us get to "know" your wonderful Aillidh.

McPhee · 09/07/2012 03:46

I'm wide awake, and I've come here to let you know you're still in our thoughts even in the middle of the night.

Peace be with you expat xxx
