In memory of our lovely Aillidh

At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

I have followed Aillidh's brave fight with my heart in my mouth and I am so very, very sorry that she has gone. Sending love and strength to the whole Expat family.

Aillidh is one of the most beautiful, generous wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I love the mischief we got up to. I love her spirit. I will miss her sitting on my knee and holding my hand, I miss stroking her head. Expat you are such a wonderful Mum. We are here for you. Always xxx

Been following this. So sorry. Really upset to see your post. Can't imagine how you're feeling but you're receiving an awful lot of love on here. Hope it goes some way to supporting you through this.

Jux · 08/07/2012 23:17

So sorry for you too, giraffes.

openerofjars · 08/07/2012 23:20

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter and I am really crap at words at times like this, so i cant find the right thing to say, but please accept my condolences. Her life was too short and it isn't fair. I can't imagine what you must be feeling and there isn't anything I can think of that other people haven't said a million times better, or that would help at all. I hope that your faith is a comfort to you and you obviously have wonderful support from your friends and family, especially giraffe. I am sure that Aillidh knew how much she was treasured and loved by you all, right to the end.

gingerbubs · 08/07/2012 23:23

Expat (and giraffes) - I am so very sorry. I have no doubt that your amazing daughter has saved many lives because of the number of people who have joined the AN register because of her story. I am just so sad for you that her story had to take this turn.

I find this poem very moving, sorry if it's been posted already xx

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

MakeHayAndSneeze · 08/07/2012 23:23

Expat, I am so sorry for your loss, my heart is so heavy for you. Aillidh's story inspired me to sign up to the Antony Nolan register, and in many other ways too. You will all be very much in my prayers.

StabbyMacStabby · 08/07/2012 23:24

I am so so sorry. It's just so wrong. Ailidh fought so hard. Am thinking of you all xx

caramelwaffle · 08/07/2012 23:24

So sorry for the loss of your daughter x

MooncupGoddess · 08/07/2012 23:25

I am so terribly sorry, expat. It seems very cruel that the world around us is going on the same as ever, while you and Aillidh's family and friends are having to bear this intolerable grief.

SunnyOutlook · 08/07/2012 23:27

So sorry for your loss expat

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 08/07/2012 23:29

Oh expat Sad

I cannot even begin to imagine how you are feeling. If you were sat beside me I would give you the biggest hug you've ever had.

xx

moajab · 08/07/2012 23:33

Expat, I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful, brave Aillidh. Like so many here I never 'knew' her and yet her last days and death have touched me deeply. You and your family have been often in my thoughts. xxx
RIP Beautiful Aillidh
