In memory of our lovely Aillidh

At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

I am so dreadfully sorry for your loss. Beautiful brave Aillidh has been in my constant thoughts. I am in awe at the strength and courage you have shown at such a desperately sad time. Thinking of you all xx

No words that will mean anything as sorrow and sadness don't seem enough. We lit a candle and said a prayer for Aillidh after Evensong tonight.

I'm so very very sorry Expat for you and all your family. No-one should have to endure the death of a child. It's a terrible journey that you've been through, are going through and will continue to travel. Please know that there's an ear here to listen to your pain.

Expat and family- I am just so so sorry for your loss xxx

My tears were struggling not to fall but they fell at Northern's post. Just...what Northern said, all of it.

SmileysPeeople · 08/07/2012 22:34

Expat, I'm struggling to find any words to offer you. Your lose is too devastating for words. No mother should ever face this pain.

All I can say is, I'm so so sorry. I have been thinking of you all day today. Constantly.

I am so sorry this has happened, that you have to live without her and that she can no longer live with you except in your hearts. With love and prayers - I am sure she is safe at the end of her final journey.

I am so sorry expat. She was so beautiful, even in the photos of her when she was ill she had a light shining from her. It's so bloody unfair that she fought so hard and for so long. You and your family have been in my thoughts all day. Ailidh's name will be in my head forever. She will not be forgotten.

crazynanna · 08/07/2012 22:54

Dear Expat and family. I am so so sorry for your loss. Like many other I prayed and hoped for a miracle and am so saddened by the news of her passing away.

I also want to say thank you for letting us share your difficult journey and also for allowing us to know your beautiful daughter. I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through. I have never met you of Aillidh, but I am greiving with you and you and your family and your precious little Aillidh, will be with me in my heart forever.

From your beautiful Aillidh, I have leaned what strength is and that no matter what is thrown at me, I will remember to smile as she did.
You have shown me what it is to be an amazing mother and family and I will strive to do my best to be a better mother for my children.

Sending much love, and big hugs to you, Mr Expat, your daughter and son and to your family and friends. xxxxxxxxxxx
