At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

I am so sorry and I am sending my love to you and your family.
I am just so, so sorry. I wish there was some words to take even the smallest bit of your pain away, but I can't think of them. I don't think the exist.
I will pray for you tonight.

Expat - I hope that your faith will help you through the difficult times ahead, and I am sure that Aillidh will remain with you forever, in your hearts and in your minds. She sounds like an amazing little girl, precious and loved by many, and she has touched so many people's hearts - people she never met and who never met her. She has made a huge difference to many people, your precious darling little girl.

SmellyFartado · 08/07/2012 18:38

Expat & family - I am so deeply sorry for your loss.

I have never met you or your family yet Aillidh's story touched me in a way that I never would have thought possible of a stranger. I too have lost loved ones to cancer yet to lose a child to this wretched disease seems a crueller blow still.

I cannot even begin to imagine how you all must be feeling. I saw your update on the other thread this morning yet I could not articulate then what I wanted to say to you. I still can't to be totally honest. You have shown such strength and composure in your posts that any words from me would seem futile. There is a beautiful hymn that I have taken comfort from in the past and I hope you don't mind me posting a link here to possibly be of comfort to you too

Your daughter was a wonderfully brave little girl to have fought as she did and with such courage. Rest in peace beautiful Aillidh. My thoughts and love are with you Expat & family. xx

timetoask · 08/07/2012 18:40

She is in the arms of the angels. Rest in peace little Aillidh. Much strength to you expat, your husband and your two little ones.

Hassled · 08/07/2012 18:43

The poem is beautiful. I'm so sorry for your enormous loss.

alibobins · 08/07/2012 18:43

:(

JennyPiccolo · 08/07/2012 18:46

It's just too sad. I hope your darling girl is at peace. X
