At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

I'm so sorry to hear about your precious girl, Ailidh.

My son died 6 months ago and I know that you are at the start of your journey and it's all so unbearable but please hang on. There is an online group called the compassionate friends and when you are ready, it might help you to talk to others in your position. Sending you all love.

Dear Expat, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter. I haven't forgottten how kind and helpful your posts were when I was facing a hysterectomy due to cancer a few years ago. I wish there was something I could say of some comfort to you now. Wishing much love to you and your family. xx

A poem that I heard many years ago has always stuck with me. I've changed a couple of words, Expat. I hope I you don't mind....

I AM STILL HER MOTHER

In a lofty castle, just beyond my eye
My Aillidh plays with angel toys that money cannot buy.
Who am I to wish her back into this world of strife?
No, play on my Aillidh, you have eternal life.

At night when all is silent and sleep forsakes my eyes,
I?ll hear her tiny footsteps come running to my side.
Her little hands caress me so tenderly and sweet,
I?ll breathe a prayer and close my eyes and embrace her in my sleep.

No, I have a treasure I rate above all other,
I have known true glory ----I am still her mother.
