At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

May the Lord carry you and your family at this sad time, heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your very special daughter Aillidh, we have been praying hard in the rabid household and will continue to do so, your daughter was truly a brave and inspirational little girl with the heart of a lion, it has been a privilege to be allowed to shear in her journey I only wish the outcome had not been this one
God bless you.

Expat I have followed yours and beautiful Aillidh's story and I was heartbroken to see last night that she was gone.

I lost my beautiful DD to the evil that is cancer last year. From one bereaved mum to another please accept a gentle and understanding hug and some fortifying strength to get you through the coming days xxx

Expat, I am so so so sorry to hear this. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family . I hope you take small comfort from some words that helped me recently.

God bless you

I am standing by the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch
until at last she hangs like a peck of white cloud
just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, 'There she goes!
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the places of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
'There she goes! ' ,
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :
'Here she comes!'

MummyDoIt · 08/07/2012 14:29

You've been in my thoughts so much, Expat, and my heart goes out to you and your family.

Much love to you.

naturalbaby · 08/07/2012 14:34

I'm so sorry that you, your family and friends have had to go through such a terrible time.

Ailidh's leukemia inspired me to join the bone marrow donor register, and I know there are many others who have done the same. I hope you can find some light and comfort during this very dark time.
Xxx
