At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

So sorry Expat. Only came across Aillidh's story in the last week or so but since then have been constantly thinking about her and checking mn and fb throughout the day, and during night-time feeds. Love all the photos of her on fb, what a fantastic smile and beautiful hair. Hard to believe.... don't know what else can be said. Sorry.

There's nothing I can type that is going to compare to how I feel.

I just want to say that Aillidh's story has touched me so much and I hold her name in my heart and her face in my memories. She was as brave as lion. Her light will forever shine.

My deepest condolences to you, expat, as you face this worst of all things. I hope you find some small comfort in the prayers and hopes of the thousands who continue to stand behind you, and relief in the knowledge that now your beautiful daughter is beyond any further hurt and is safe with God. And some day you will be reunited.

I have no word of wisdom or comfort to offer. Only a prayer that God shall surround all of Aillidh's loved ones on all sides and hold them in the palm of his hand.
The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21

thunksheadontable · 08/07/2012 14:14

I'm just so sorry for you and for all your family that it happened as it did when you were so close to the transplant. It is so wrong and unfair and I wish it could be undone.

In Irish we say: "ní bheith a leithéid ann arís" - there will never be the likes of her again. Rest in peace, Aillidh.
