At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

Expat I am so very sad and sorry to read this morning that your beautiful little girl has died. I don't know what we as mumsnetters can do now to give you help or support, but whatever you might need that we could help with, please ask, there are so many people on here who are all thinking of you and your family now. I don't know what else to say, other than that she sounded an incredible character, and I am dreadfully sorry that she is no longer with you.

ilovesprouts · 08/07/2012 13:45

So Very Special

She was so very, very special
And was so from the start
You held her in your arms
But mainly in your heart
And like a single drop of rain
That on still waters fall,
Her life did ripples make
And touched the lives of all.
She's gone to play with angels
In heaven up above
So keep your special memories
And treasure. them with love
Although your darling daughter
Was with you just a while
She'll live on in your heart
With a sweet remembered smile
much love expat and family xx

I'm so very sorry for your loss - I am sure that the collective sadness of an internet community is a drop in the ocean to the sadness and loss you and your family feel but even so I am so sad for you all. Much love to you xxx

Expat, words are hard to find but the impact your beautiful daughter has had is incredible and I hope that in time you will take some comfort from that. She has not only helped swell the numbers on the bone marrow donor register but she has also brought many to prayer and explore their own faith. We may not fully understand the why of what has happened but be assured of the miracle that Aillidh is, was and were worked through her.
Prayers continue for you all.

eastendfareast · 08/07/2012 13:53

Sad

I am so, so, sorry expat.

It's funny peculiar how someone you've never met can touch you're heart over the internet.

Dear Expat, - I'm so very sorry for your loss, like many others on here, I am a stranger who was so moved and touched by your daughter's courage and spirit. Bless your family, may you find strength and peace to help you through the days to come, and may little Aillidh sleep tight. xx

GColdtimer · 08/07/2012 13:55

YoshysMum · 08/07/2012 13:56

Expat and family a poem to hopefully give comfort.

God bless Aillidh, xx.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning?s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
