My newborn girl is going to die, not sure what to do now.

I gave birth to our little girl yesterday at 1.15pm. They told almost straight away they thought she had Edward's Syndrome. Now they think her brain just didn't develop. Noone can tell us how long she will be with us, nobody knows.

My two dds are 6 and 4 and were so excited about their baby sister. They are coming to meet her later. How can I tell them she will die?

As she is breathing unaided and tube feeding, they are caring for her in SCBU, but I have said if they can't do anything, I want to bring her home to spend her last time. I wish we knew how long she had.

I think my heart is breaking.

What a lovely name, I am so sorry for your sad situationSad

Snickers25 · 17/09/2011 19:02

As others have said, I too cannot read this and not reply, if only to just say my heart reaches out to you. I hope you can find some reassurance that your beautiful baby girl is not suffering and that she doesn't understand what her prognosis is.

Rest assured that she'll be filled with all those happy hormones from all the love she's receiving from you (all those cuddles!)
God bless you and your family. Xxx

Thank you for sharing - her name is beautiful. I am glad she met her sisters and feel sure you'll treasure those photos and memories. Perhaps you should try to get hold of a notebook and pen, just to jot down your thoughts, as well as make any notes of things that you may forget later. Do you have a special blanket or teddy for Beatrice? I'm sure sharing those things with her would be comforting for you and her.

I'm so very sorry, and hope you find strength through this difficult time.

A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam...
and for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world...
but then it flies on again, and although
we wish it could have stayed,
we are so thankful to have seen it at all.

What a beautiful name for a beautiful little girl.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

At times like this it is important that you do what feels right in your heart - sod what others think or convention.

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 17/09/2011 19:19

What a lovely name for her. I love the bright primroses you see by the wayside as you walk along country paths in early spring-time. Whenever you see them I'm sure you will think of her. The poem by Ben Jonson is wonderful Mardy

Thank you DaisySteiner for that lovely poem about a butterfly. That is exactly how I feel, so thankful just to have her here now, for however long. I said yesterday, I feel blessed that she was born alive so I can feel her breathing and warm, for now. I'm so sad for her.
