My newborn girl is going to die, not sure what to do now.

I gave birth to our little girl yesterday at 1.15pm. They told almost straight away they thought she had Edward's Syndrome. Now they think her brain just didn't develop. Noone can tell us how long she will be with us, nobody knows.

My two dds are 6 and 4 and were so excited about their baby sister. They are coming to meet her later. How can I tell them she will die?

As she is breathing unaided and tube feeding, they are caring for her in SCBU, but I have said if they can't do anything, I want to bring her home to spend her last time. I wish we knew how long she had.

I think my heart is breaking.

SpawnChorus · 20/09/2011 13:31

Oh my goodness...I've just found this thread, and read it from the beginning. I literally have goosebumps and tears in my eyes (am usually a hardnut). So SO SOOOOO happy that she's not got Edward Syndrome. As so many posters have said, she is utterly, heart-quiveringly beautiful, and I am really so happy that her future is looking so much brighter. I have everthing crossed that she'll be home in the bosom of her wonderful, loving family as soon as possible! xxxx

NormaStanleyFletcher · 20/09/2011 13:32

SanctiMoanyArse · 20/09/2011 13:56

DS1 (who likes babies a lot) and I are crying here.

If you need it at any point, those of us on the SN board will be about. Don't be surprised if there's still emotionally rough patches- just because it's far better than the alternative doesn't mean you will escape the shock (and just the trauma from the past few days must be huge).

But having done away with the wisdom bit

HURRAY HURRAY HURRAY this is so very wonderful!

YougreatPamplemousse · 20/09/2011 13:59

Make sure you look after yourself too - an infected scar needs proper regular treatment.
