So what's the earliest anyone's DC has started walking?

....just wondering really. DH and I were discussing this earlier and we really had no idea.

What's the youngest that anybody's child has taken their first steps?

(and no, this isn't some sly way of telling you that my DD walked early. She didn't let go of my hand until 16 months. Well we are a bit of a lazy family.....)

Both DD's walked at 9 months, just very active children.

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 08/12/2007 09:20

DD1 was 9mnths

DD2 was 12 mths and only the cos she was in hospital for a week and was therfore left alone by her sister. she tried cruising from 7mths and i thought she too would walk early but big sis had other ideas and kept pushing her over. mean bug sis!!

DD3 was again 9mths but cos she also had very severe reflux and just never grew she was still in 0-3mths clothes and it look really really odd!

DS1 was 16mths......again he had a big sis pushing him over when he tried to get into DD3's space

DS2 was 10 mths and he was extremely tiny too.

also had two freakily early talkers (DD1 n DS2) who could hold conversations at 12mths
yet the others needed speach therapy as they just never spoke beyond a point and a grunt!! (bit like their daddy really)

ds (very nearly 3 now) was 10mths when he started walking but after 2 weeks gave up for a couple of months and just after his 1st birthday started running everywhere and hasn't stopped since....

dd now 20mths (well tomorrow) was 14mths but got up and walked perfectly from day 1....

ds said his first words at 7mths and could hold conversations at 12mths.....but dd still only talks in one word at a time mode, tries to copy anything she hears in her own little language though and thinks everyone can understand her!!!- but again she is fairly small so people dont realise how old she is (only just in 12-18 mth clothes.)

smartiejake · 08/12/2007 14:00

dd2 was a day off 10 months when she first walked. Didn't mean any thing though she is now 9 and a clumsy clot who falls over her own feet and runs "like a girl" if you know what I mean!

BrandyButterGalore · 08/12/2007 14:04

ds3 walked at 10m.

Tanktop · 08/12/2007 14:29

My dd didn't sit unaided until around 9mths which is apparently late but then was up and walking at 12mths. She is now 3 and a real live wire.

My mates wee girl was 18mths before she walked. She is now almost 2 and never stops for a breather.

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 08/12/2007 14:54

DD was just off 9 months and was tiny!

She never really crawled at all!

MaeBee · 08/12/2007 15:35

8 months, but there was that news item about a baby walking at 6 mths. felt my boy had let me down...

Amethyst86 · 08/12/2007 21:26

Both my DC walked at 9 months. I never expected it to be that early so was quite surprised. DS did not even really crawl. Just straight up on his feet.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 08/12/2007 21:40

14 months and not a moments before was dying for him to walk couldnt wait now i spend my day saying could you not sit down for a minute!

JacanneAbox · 08/12/2007 21:47

9 months for dd1 - but she started crawling at 4 months - got from one side of the room to the other by commando crawling across the floor and was doing it properly by 5 months.

SibbleTheRedNosedPossum · 08/12/2007 22:04

ds1 9 months, ds2 12 months - it was a nightmare tbh no sense of danger or spacial awareness. I envied friends whose babies were still crawlers.

mrsruffallo · 08/12/2007 22:21

dd walked at 11 months, ds shortly before 9 months

mrsruffallo · 08/12/2007 22:24

Sibble- I agree had a v stressful few months when ds first started walking. He is a bit more sensible now (19 months) but can run like the wind when he feels like it!

cherryredretrochick · 09/12/2007 19:35

dd2 walked at 8mths, has been a bloody nightmare ever since.

AMerryScot · 09/12/2007 19:39

DC2 started at 8 months - very strange. He was a very small child, which probably explained the appropriate strenght in his legs, but looked totally weird.

Hulababy · 09/12/2007 19:49

Friend's (a MNetter) DD2 walked at 8.5 months.

DD was 10 months whivch I think was early enough, lol!

chocolateshoes · 09/12/2007 19:50

DS at 11mths I think

Hulababy · 09/12/2007 19:51

just seen the 6.5mo on here. Eeek. Now that is early walking. DD was cruising from 5 months, but def not unaided. Thought that was bad enough to deal with.

mumofhelen · 09/12/2007 20:05

9 months aided, 11 months unaided.

ds2 crawled at 18 weeks to the day. Now at just turned 8 months he's alternating between cruising, letting go but not yet trying to go anywhere, charging around with a push along walker, normal (fast) crawling and most recently doing a most peculiar sort of walking on his knees/upright crawling with no hands thing (sort of the same action as crawling with his lower legs, but with his thighs and body vertical).

ds1 walked at 10.5 months, and ds2 is well ahead of where his big brother was at this stage, so I'm expecting it any day.

fairylights · 10/12/2007 13:46

my ds is 13 mo and not walking yet and no sign of it. i have noticed that the babies that i know who have started walking first are the ones at nursery - maybe because they see other kids shooting around all day?? or maybe that has nothing to do with it!
Does an early walker signal a future olympic runner, thats what i want to know!
