So what's the earliest anyone's DC has started walking?

....just wondering really. DH and I were discussing this earlier and we really had no idea.

What's the youngest that anybody's child has taken their first steps?

(and no, this isn't some sly way of telling you that my DD walked early. She didn't let go of my hand until 16 months. Well we are a bit of a lazy family.....)

Ds walked at 10 months but our local children's shoe shop said they had a lot of little italian babies walking at 7 months!

SlightlyMadScreachingSirens · 07/12/2007 19:36

I think Ponkas DS (from our antenatal board) was walking between 9-10m

CloudAtlas · 07/12/2007 19:37

my friends little girl was walking at 9 months, may have been a little earlier, but she is gifted!

camillathechicken · 07/12/2007 19:37

I have a friend whose DCs walked at

9 , 10 and 11 months respectively

mine were 17 and 16 months

mollymawk · 07/12/2007 19:37

I know someone whose DS started walking at 9 mths. She said it was a nightmare - "he had the legs but not the brains".
Apparently San children in the Kalahari start walking at about 9 mths quite routinely.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 07/12/2007 19:38

My ds was a week before his 1st birthday & dd was 11 months, quite glad it was no earlier to be honest wish i had lazy children, my life changed when they walked

aWorminaManger · 07/12/2007 19:39

At a post-natal group I went to there was a baby that was waling at 8 months. It looked really creepy, scary, to see that young a child walking.

aWorminaManger · 07/12/2007 19:39

That would be walking. Quite a lot of the babies were wailing.

Miaou · 07/12/2007 19:40

chapsmum (hasn't posted on here for a while) - I'm pretty sure her ds walked at 8 months

I had a friend whose dd walked at 8 months (and she was tiny! In 3-6 month clothes at a year old!) It was very odd to see

belgo · 07/12/2007 19:40

dd1 walked very well at 10 months. She's now nearly four and very agile and athletic.

toomanyshoes · 07/12/2007 19:41

my dd walked at 9 months and totally agree about the legs but not the brains thing! Constantly crashing into things and having accidents, looked v odd too! She is 2.7 now and v lazy, would rather be carried or go in her buggy!

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 07/12/2007 19:41

dd2 walked at 10months old.

but she was huge and looked like a 2-3yr old.

knickerelasticjones · 07/12/2007 19:42

9 months - crickey!

This all started as DD2 (nearly 4 months) was on my knee today and I suddenly realised that she was 'standing' and holding her own weight on her legs. So Dh made comment along the lines of 'she might be an early walker' but we didn't know EXACTLy how early that was....

But 9 months sounds pretty unlikely for us - don't think anybody in our entire family was that quick on their feet!

One of my ds walked unaided at 9months.

knickerelasticjones · 07/12/2007 19:43

Eek - took me so long to post the last message that I hadn't seen the posts saying 8 months.

I agree, I'd rather have a late walker than an early one. Much less hassle.

DS walked at 9 months. I'm sure I've seen someone on here whose DC walked at 7 months, mind you.

lululemonrefuser · 07/12/2007 20:05

My DD walked at 9 months. As others say - it was hell - constant motion and no brain! I had a playpen (something I swore I'd never do) just so that we could all stay safe and sane.

Miaou · 07/12/2007 20:05

knickerelastic - all four have mine have "stood" on my knee from very early (ds2 is 20 weeks and has been doing it since about 12 weeks) - but they were all average-to-late walkers - 14, 15 and 14 months respectively (and I don't expect ds2 to be any different!)

needmorecoffee · 07/12/2007 20:08

dd1 was 6 and a half months but luckily she couldn't crawl. She would pull herself up on furniture and toddle off so I'd put her out of reach of everything. She crawled at 8 months.
I have photos of her at toddlers looking very tiny.
ds1 and ds 2 were 10 months and 13 months.
dd2 will never walk. She's now 3.

MincecePie · 07/12/2007 20:15

DS was 6 and half months when he could cruise the furniture and crawl but didn't walk on his own till 10 months (I think). It was a nightmare. DD was 13 months! Much better...

morocco · 07/12/2007 20:15

ds1 and ds2 would never ever bend their knees even from newborn (honestly not joking) and literally always wanted to be stood up - it was a pain. they walked at 9 months and 10 months. dd was a total jelly legs, she never ever locked her legs, but last week she suddenly decided to pull to standing all the time and it's her new project. she's 8 months. maybe she'll match her brothers after all . mind you, I know friends whose babies cruised from 9 to 16 months without moving to independent walking, so maybe not. early walking is a pain, except at least the knees on trousers don't get so dirty

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 07/12/2007 20:23

DS was 8.5mths,dd1 was 13mths and dd2 was 9mths
