My 2 year old dd is starting to recognise that boys have 'willies' and girls don't. What do I tell her girls have? 'Fanny' I don't like, and other than that. I haven't got any ideas. Anyone any suggestions?

Have also heard that it's good to call things by their real names so if (god forbid) a child finds him/herself in a situation with someone who wants to touch them inappropriately (shudder) then shouting "no don't touch my vagina" is more effective than "don't touch my foofoo"...for shock factor apparently, and is likely to be more effective at getting them out of difficulties. Can't remember where I read that, on a thread on MN probably!

appyday · 22/04/2006 15:21

DD says bits and bum, but there are men bits and lady bits and I wish she would just leave hers alone.

stoppinattwo · 22/04/2006 17:03

My DD calls it a "mary" which was OK till she got the lead role in the Nursery
Nativity !!! Shock she refused to be Mary and the poor girls in nursery couldnt understand why until i explained Blush. But she soon had a change of heart when she realised there could be two different mary's and she got to be the one that holds the baby and sit next to the cutest guy in her class Grin

tallulah-fallulah is a personal fave of mine Grin

I have boys but would call it a front bottom.

anniebear · 22/04/2006 18:36

If I was in a toddler group and a little girl turned round and said "Mummy my vulva is sore (whatever)" I know everyone would be smirking!! or suprised

It might be the right name for it, but I have never heard a child called it that!!! Just as most little boys don't say penis!

Nothing wrong with using the correct words, but you have to admit, it does sound funny for a little girl to say Vulva Grin

For some reason us parents use a funny name for it, don't know why but most of us do!!

Lauraa83 · 22/04/2006 19:24

i want to know what I should call it to my ds, i know I'll say willy, and was going to say fanny but then i thought he mite get told off for saying fanny at school and stuff? Do you think that's right?

Lauraa83 · 22/04/2006 19:26

also, I'm not trying to change the subject, it is still lady-bits:) but what do you call your tits?

I always use the word tits cos I absolutely hate the words boobs and boobies I can't bring myself to say them! Penis too it really makes me cringe........but again do you think tits is too rude? Maybe top bollox:o only joking

anniebear · 22/04/2006 19:35

I would imagine if my girls said fanny or tits in school they would be told off

My ds calls them Mummy's boogies Grin

tegan · 22/04/2006 20:43

Both my girls know them as boys bits and girls bits and of course bum which dd2 loves to say at the mo.

crazydazy · 22/04/2006 20:49

Tuppies in our house, short for tuppence.

DD's friends call them noo-noo or minnie

crazydazy · 22/04/2006 20:50

.....and we call the others boobies!!!

lalaa · 22/04/2006 21:03

innocent question: what's wrong with front bottom? don't understand why that's so wrong....describes the location and the body part. and would work in the 'don't touch my front bottom' test, and if small child wanted to tell someone that there was something wrong in that area.
dd has a friend called minnie.....now that would be confusing....

tegan · 22/04/2006 21:19

Also why is dd2 fascinated with by boob. She keeps grabbing them and shouting boobies at the top of her voice no matter where we are.

Ledodgy · 22/04/2006 21:20

I was bathing my 5 month old ds today and my 3 year old dd came in and started laughing she said " haha I have bits but jack has bits and bobs" I couldn't have put it better myself!

Greensleeves · 22/04/2006 22:04

I was in the bath with ds1 (3) this morning, and he frowned and said "Mummy, will the bath wash all that hair off your bottom?"

mymama · 22/04/2006 22:14

Agree with kitbit. Have heard of cases of child abuse where the case could not get through court because the "man put his willy in my minky" (rother is a detective in this area). Apparently nothing illegal about a willy in a minky. I personally can't do the vulva thing so tell my children it's a vagina and a penis.

louise35 · 22/04/2006 22:17

In my house our ladies bits are known as "tuppence". It's the name my Mum also called it when I was a little girl so I suppose I just carried it on from there when I had my DD. One day when my DD was a toddler she went into the bathroom when DH was in the bath and pointed at his privates and shouted "ooh whats that thing sticking out of YOUR tuppence?" She's 11 now and that story still makes me chuckle.

louise35 · 22/04/2006 22:27

Nowadays though she just refers to "her bits". I think she finds "tuppence" a bit of a baby word now. I've had to stop her using the word tits and titties as it makes me cringe, we refer to those parts as boobs and she just calls the male bits "willy" and "balls". She does know the actual names for male and female parts but prefers to use her own names and if we ever get onto the subject of sex etc I do try to use the proper technical terms. Oh god I can't believe I'm spending Saturday night discussing private parts. Its like being back at school again lol.

NotAnOtter · 22/04/2006 22:28

muffy in the nototter house

Meggymoose · 22/04/2006 22:30

Frillies and boobies here

madrose · 22/04/2006 22:41

how to make DH cringe - by using the word vulva. That's what I want to use for girly bits, but mainly cos DH hates that word.

Mind you doesn't like the word breasts either, says it reminds him of chickens.

mymama · 23/04/2006 07:59

For those who insist on vulva because it is the correct term - do you say anus/rectum for bum/bottom??

CarolinaMooncup · 23/04/2006 18:36

no mymama, we say gluteus maximus.
