Ellis - which gender?

I love the name Ellis for a boy.

My mum, who is a primary school teacher, says that it is a girls name and a boy called Ellis will be teased.

I know that Ellie is very popular for girls but is Ellis?

Thanks!

Girl. Havent you seen greays anatomy?

McRedHead · 05/05/2014 20:30

Boy, IMO. I know more boys with it (inc my DS!). He and the others don't seem to have suffered any teasing because of it.

If you like it, use it!

(The girl I know uses the spelling is Ellys.)

I know 2 girls one Elis (in her 30s) and one Ellis (age 5). Would have assumed Elis to be a girl and Ellis to be a boy tbh til I met Ellis (age 5)!

Most definitely boy. Never heard of it being a female name and it's a horrible name for a girl

Boy

Modern American drama v country which historically uses name? Hmm

Not sure why you'd think Greys Anatomy was particularly relevant.

I would assume boy

I know a boy and would assume was a boy but I think it would work for girls.
