What would you think of making up your own names for your DCs?

I am asking because I have recently met a family in which the parents made up names for their two DDs. Their names are Kelen and Briar!

Has anyone here done that? What do you think of the idea? It is definitely the way to avoid ending up with another 10 children with the same name in their class...

Hugs,

Aurynne

Stupid idea.

As is putting ''Hugs''

rubyslippers · 23/09/2009 09:39

yuck

overmydeadbody · 23/09/2009 09:40

yep pointless and stupid

and agree with knickers, so is putting 'hugs' and your name after your posts.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 23/09/2009 09:41

I think people are free to do what they like. Go for something in the top 100 or dip their hand into a scrabble bag and see what happens

please don't sign off with hugs. The vipers will bite you!

aurynne · 23/09/2009 09:41

...so is making such an issue of what another person chooses to write at the end of her posts by the way :P

Hugs,

Aurynne

Briar isn't a made up name.

And even if you choose the most common name going you would be pretty unlucky to have another one in the class.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 23/09/2009 09:43

Kelen is not unique to them either. Google it and you'll see.

So very unusual rather than made up.

Hugs.

Hecate.

seeker... here in New Zealand there was a class with three girls called "Unique"... quite hilarious...

Who remembers that fantastic thread a few years ago where the OP said she was making up lovely names for her children that she liked because they sounded nice?

I laughed about them for years and now I've bloody forgotten them. (I realise it's unlikely anyone will have any idea what I'm on about.)

Big old slobbery snogs,

Hullykins xxxx

ShowOfHands · 23/09/2009 09:46

I like it when people add their names at the end of their posts. Otherwise I might not know who wrote the post in question. Oh no, hang on, it's up there in blue. My mistake.

Don't hug me either. It's like a switch in my head and I start indiscriminately maiming.

Pinkjenny · 23/09/2009 09:47

SOH:

Chill.

Hugs,

Pinkjenny

aurynne · 23/09/2009 09:48

Pity for you ShowofHands... hugs are so nice!

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 23/09/2009 09:48

Oops, wrong switch.

Knickers0nmahead · 23/09/2009 09:49

This is a pisstake, isn't it

Pinkjenny · 23/09/2009 09:50

aurynne - I beg you to stop hugging. Please.

hullygully · 23/09/2009 09:51

What about a spot of inappropriate groping instead?

aurynne · 23/09/2009 10:01

ROFL ladies, get a grip. There are far more important issues in this forum than a poster signing her messages with "hugs". I always do it and will keep doing it because I like it, and because last time I checked the rules, it wasn't forbidden.

Hugs,

Aurynne

But isn't it a bit embarrassing when you go to hug someone and they just stand there stiffly, not reciprocating?

aurynne · 23/09/2009 10:09

It's more embarrassing when no one knows how to greet, and no one says anything, and you could cut the silence with a knife. I prefer action to inaction ;)

You can do what you like aurynne. Just be prepared for the fact that people will not respond sensibly to a thing you say and will assume you are patronising them.

Pinkjenny · 23/09/2009 10:11

I quite agree. I am a big hugger in RL, I just hide it well on here

I admire your openness.

ShowOfHands · 23/09/2009 10:12

Fine aurynne, the rest of us will restrain ourselves from the inappropriate touching while you go round the group and hump our legs. Good for you.

cheesesarnie · 23/09/2009 10:13

cheesesarnie

cheesesarnie · 23/09/2009 10:13

Knickers0nmahead · 23/09/2009 10:13

People may call you a cunt. Are you prepared for that?
