What would you think of making up your own names for your DCs?

I am asking because I have recently met a family in which the parents made up names for their two DDs. Their names are Kelen and Briar!

Has anyone here done that? What do you think of the idea? It is definitely the way to avoid ending up with another 10 children with the same name in their class...

I don't like made up names but Briar isn't and surely Kelen is just an alternative spelling to the name Kellen? Is it pronounced the same?
