What would you think of making up your own names for your DCs?

I am asking because I have recently met a family in which the parents made up names for their two DDs. Their names are Kelen and Briar!

Has anyone here done that? What do you think of the idea? It is definitely the way to avoid ending up with another 10 children with the same name in their class...

Hugs,

Aurynne

Knickers, I though you may have noticed by now... my hugs are just virtual... they can't hurt you... it's just 4 letters (and a comma), really. Breath easy and relax .

Hugs,

Aurynne

My DP was named after a quarry where his dad used to do truck driving jobs. His mum modified the spelling to name it sound more like a name (it doesn't).

He goes by his middle name.

Fucks,

Good on you Aurynne for standing your ground and not letting some of the repressed dragons on here chase you off. MN has room for everyone.

SOH has hugged me in RL, she loves the hugs really.

ShowOfHands · 23/09/2009 10:38

Dear Darling Thread,

I cannot do it. I cannot keep from you. Our epic love, my reason for living. It brings to mind the great romances of this world. Elizabeth and Darcy, Edward and Bella, Scott and Charlene. Oh the poems I could write.

My thread, my heart, how shall I cope without you.

Until we meet again,

Showy.

Dear Thread,

I have met somebody else.

Regards,

Show.

It's the comma that offends me. After the hug, I wonder what it's doing hanging curvedly down there with intent.

PJ, I only hugged you because I love you.

Show, the comma is actually a phalic symbol. A... erm... flaccid one.

Hugs,

Aurynne

PS You HAVE to admit that, thanks to my hugs, this is becoming the most hilarious thread in the "Baby names" section... even if it's ended up having nothing to do with baby names...

Dear Aurynne,

Stop touching me with your flaccid appendage.

And I will accept that this thread is mildly amusing. Hilarity is not very English after all.

Polite titters,

Show.

Aurynne, you have even inspired another thread.

aurynne · 23/09/2009 10:49

Orgy should be added to the emoticons.

ShowOfHandsInEpistolaryForm · 23/09/2009 10:51

Dear Aurynne,

I'm pregnant. It's yours. Or one of your puntuation marks.

I'm keeping it,

I know a Briar, she just turned 6 and is a right wee madam

aurynne · 23/09/2009 11:05

...in that case Briar and Kelen's dad was pulling my leg when he said they had made their names up.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 23/09/2009 11:13

well Briar Rose is Sleeping Beauty's name and as a timeless classic of a fairy tale I think their dad needs to expand his reading a touch

Kelen I've never heard of and should hopefully never come across again, tis a terrible name
