My DF wanted to call me Merlin if I was a boy and Gwenevere if I was a girl. My DM wanted Joseph for a boy and Abi-Jo for a girl. I ended up with Abi but secretly i'd have liked Gwenevere

GiraffeAHolic · 22/04/2009 14:40

My Mum wanted to call me Celia

squeaver · 22/04/2009 14:40

Kirsty. I consider that a bullet dodged.

Fimbo · 22/04/2009 14:41

I was born in 1968, I am named after my dad's favourite actress of the time.

The other options were Heather, Fiona, Lesley and Daryl.

The only had one boy name picked which was Craig.

Iklboo · 22/04/2009 14:42

If I had been a boy I would have been called Christopher Lee. Mum was a big Dracula fan (thank f*ck she didn't like Boris Karloff!).
My dad wanted to call me Ruby too, but with my (then) surname it would have sounded like someone trying to say 'rhubarb' while going over a speed bump

SmilingEi · 22/04/2009 14:42

my dad wanted to call me stephen if i was a boy and didnt have any idea of a girl name he preferred, my mum wanted heidi for a girl or stephen for a boy...i was then called eileen after my mums sister who had died...im not sure what i would have preferred but im not a big fan of my name given that im 26 not 86
xx ei xx

cazinski · 22/04/2009 15:12

I would have been Peter...or Lindsay. Hmmmm, to be fair the real name I've got is awful too! Thanks Mum and Dad!

PheasantPlucker · 22/04/2009 15:15

My mum wanted Sergei if I was a boy. Which would have been great in St Petersburg, but a tad cruel in rural Norfolk in 1968!

cyteen · 22/04/2009 15:21

Apparently my gran suggested Posie

blondiep14 · 22/04/2009 15:21

My Dad would have called me Shem if I was a boy...

Dior · 22/04/2009 15:25

I was going to be Louisa, which was my grandmother's middle name (her first was Hilda!) But, my parents had a change of heart. I do like my name, but would have been happy to be a Lousia too.

steamedtreaclesponge · 22/04/2009 15:26

I was almost Georgina

Would have liked it although I am quite happy with my own name!

yappybluedog · 22/04/2009 15:39

I was nearly an Adrienne Leigh, which I quite like, much nicer than the name I ended up with

Flower3545 · 22/04/2009 15:42

I was "meant" to be Paul after my late grandfather. My dad was most put out when mum delivered a girl

EyeballsintheSky · 22/04/2009 15:45

I was going to be Justin/e

ShowOfHands · 22/04/2009 15:46

If my Mum had picked I would be Josephine, Heather or Flora.

My Dad picked. I am named after a Beach Boys record.

Jackstini · 22/04/2009 15:53

I was called something else - was Lyndsay Marie for the first 24 hours,
Was going to be Duncan if a boy....

PortBlacksandResident · 22/04/2009 15:56

I was nearly Phillipa. I would have been called the boy equivalent of my name.

SarahL2 · 22/04/2009 15:57

I was going to be Sarannah!!

I ended up Sarah, my sister is Hannah 2 for 1

MrsMattie · 22/04/2009 15:57

I was nearly called Angharad (and we aren't even Welsh!), Would have been Matthew or Sean if I'd have been a boy.

HeadFairy · 22/04/2009 16:00

I was due to be born on 14th July, Bastille day, so as my mum is half French and spent most of her childhood there she was going to call me Marie-France, which is the traditional name given to girls born on Bastille day. Thank God I was late... I've still got a French name though.

Hassled · 22/04/2009 16:03

Elsbeth or Graham.

My parents compromised on something very hard to pronounce instead. Cheers

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 22/04/2009 16:04

I was going to be called Blue if I was a boy

sweetkitty · 22/04/2009 16:06

Marlena if a girl (my Gran was Lena and I was nearly born on her birthday)

Dale if a boy
