Calling children by their initials

I don't know how common it is, but I know a few children (all boys) that are almost exclusively called by their first and middle initial (JC, JP, JJ, AJ, KD, etc.). I've always thought it was cute and said I'd do that if I ever had a boy. Our daughter's initials are going to be DJ, and I'm now thinking that I'd like to call her that mostly. Just wondering what others think of this idea. Does it work for a girl?

We actually had a Billie Jean at a school where I worked.

There was no hyphen, so we got a complaint that some members of staff had called the kid "Billie" at the beginning of term. (They'd mistakenly thought that "Jean" was only a middle name.)

Yes, the girl happily answered to "B.J."
