Calling children by their initials

I don't know how common it is, but I know a few children (all boys) that are almost exclusively called by their first and middle initial (JC, JP, JJ, AJ, KD, etc.). I've always thought it was cute and said I'd do that if I ever had a boy. Our daughter's initials are going to be DJ, and I'm now thinking that I'd like to call her that mostly. Just wondering what others think of this idea. Does it work for a girl?

You might find the school will call them by their registered name not a pet name.

I'm not sure if this is American. When I was a child JJ was common shortening for boys called Jason. I've also known a girl called TJ ( Tara Jane) and lots of boys called PJ ( Paul Junior)

I adore DJ for a boy or girl. I call my son just his first initial a lot. I like typing initials of mine and other people’s kids for ease over text too.

I also know a CeeJay, dads name begins with C and he wanted him to be junior, mum didn't so it was a compromise of sorts. Wonder if it's the same one.

My dog is called LJ as his name is the same as DS1 (the L is for little)

I recently met a woman who went by her three initials instead of her name.

I don't generally like it but I do have quite a posh friend who pulls it off. As a child you accept most things. My cousin was named after my dad so they were known as big K and little K within the family. I was about 18 before I realised this was a bit unusual 😁

Cece is often a shortening for Cecelia rather than initials.

Ive only come across this in teenagers who have specific reasons for doing so (so their own choice rather than a parent doing so from birth). Individuals with a speech difficulty or international students trying to simplify their names is common or of course teenagers being teenagers and rejecting their formal name for one reason or another.

Except in my experience it isn’t. I know a very posh AJ, a rather posh CJ and a very cool and slightly posh ‘JPR’.

DS has several friends called the same J name, but one of them had always been known as JP.

I have friend known as Casey, as his initials are KC. Loads of people don’t realise that he m’s actually called Keith.

I’ve a colleague known as JB, always.

It seem to work better with some initials than others. All the examples avice are male, curiously.

Mt dd has a hyphenated name, we often just use the initials.

I’m Irish and know DJs, JJs and PJs, Several of each and most are quite elderly. All men.

When I was a children's social worker I worked with a sibling group who all had 2 letters as names. Like initials, but didn't have full names attached to them. Was incredibly weird.
