Calling children by their initials

I don't know how common it is, but I know a few children (all boys) that are almost exclusively called by their first and middle initial (JC, JP, JJ, AJ, KD, etc.). I've always thought it was cute and said I'd do that if I ever had a boy. Our daughter's initials are going to be DJ, and I'm now thinking that I'd like to call her that mostly. Just wondering what others think of this idea. Does it work for a girl?

Although I wouldn’t do this personally I do think it’s quite cute too. I think it’s fine as long as you choose a first name that you actually like and are okay with your daughter choosing to use it if she doesn’t like the initials thing when she gets older.

I always call my daughter by her first initial only which is V , it’s just kind of stuck and now everyone calls her V

I wanted to do that when my kids were babies but their dad didn't so we never did it. Would have been, JC, KG and TE

Schools will honestly call the child Buddy, Junior, or something equally as silly as these examples if the parents request it. You just inform the school of the fact that your child goes by a different name. They typically have a separate section on the form for the preferred name. It’s never been an issue for my one child who is called something else.

My son went to school with a boy named Teejay, I always thought it was a strange choice.

Latterly, when I was teaching, we had boys whose actual names were initials or or what would have been initials written as they sounded - "T.J" or "Teejay", for example.

It doesn't appeal to me, but we all have different ideas about names.

I know 4 women who go by initials in the UK and are middle to upper middle class. Nicknames just happen.

I've met a couple of people that go by initials. I don't think it's any different to a pet name or nick name. All depends on the person and initials. I mean KR sounds a bit naff but KC, PJ, DW all sound good

I know a baby girl, SJ. Suits the mother more than the baby. Baby, hopefully, will grow into it.

When my sister and I are with close friends and family, I sometimes call her by her first initial. It's no different to any other nickname really.

I know a couple of people who sort of go by their initials. A bloke called Des, whose actual name is David Edward Smith (something like that) and a lady called Jay, whose name is Janet Alice Young (again I can’t remember the actual name). I only found this out after knew them a while. You just accept what people’s names are when they are introduced 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not a fan. I know an RJ and JjJ. I cringe a little when people shout on them.

just call them by their actual name.

My colleague's cousin is Lisa Marie but known as LM.
