Twin baby girl names

Handrearedmagpie · 10/06/2026 00:17

34 weeks with non-ID baby girls and struggling for a second name! Would welcome any opinions on our list.

Iris - I adore this & is 100% my favourite by far. I just want another name I love as much! Our shortlist is -

Esme
Eloise
Louisa
Ava (DH's favourite)
Rowan

Middle names we would ideally like to be from family so

Margaret
Josephine
Helena/Helen
Charlotte
James

TIA

Iris Margaret and Ava Josephine. Seems fair to use your DHS favourite name too

newrubylane · 21/06/2026 21:47

If you're DH likes Ava, why not let him have that? With my boy/girl twins we had a shortlist for both sexes, but didn't decide until after the birth. My DH chose our DS's name a few days after birth and I agreed but asked if I could have my choice of girl name, which he agreed to. So we kind of got one each.

Iris Helen and Ava Margaret would be my choices (my DD had Margaret for a middle name).

Why not do another flower name. I think I'd be jealous if my sister was a flower and I'm not.

Iris & Rose
Iris & Lily
Iris & Daisy
Iris & Violet
Iris & Hyacinth
Iris and Buttercup

I like Rowan for a girl but I don't think it goes with Iris and please, please don't call your daughter James.

Please don’t call your child Buttercup!

Iris and Ava are lovely. I think both vowel names are nice. On another note, I have twins with matching initials and it is never a problem, they are teens now and post is practically non existent so never an issue.

Peanutlicious · 22/06/2026 10:59

Iris Josephine and Eloise Charlotte

Iris - like
I'd keep looking.
From your short list I only like Louisa.
Middle names are fine apart from James.

Esme - various spellings, Esmee/Esmay pronunciation. Not keen
Eloise - A bit of a mouthful and the horrible misspelling of Elouise has put me right off it.
Louisa - ok
Ava - I really can't see the appeal of this overused name other than it's a palindrome. Ay-vuh - such a miserable sound.
Rowan - I know it's unisex and I do like it but I suspect you'll get lots of 'One of each - how lovely!' type comments. (You will also get 'Are they identical?' even if they're obviously not)

James - absolutely not. Rowan James is too masculine, and with one of the other names it looks a bit like you wanted a boy.

Agree with all of this.
Louisa Helen is nice.
I also love both Anna and Imogen.

If you love Iris and dh loves Ava then i think thats a nice way to decide - assuming you dont hate Ava.

Out of your list i would choose Iris and Louisa but i think dh also having a name he loves as much as i love Iris would be important to me

Ok. I'm thinking James may be hormones at play 🤣 I don't think I'd actually have the nerve to do it, though I always wanted to be called Jaime as a teenager! I just don't feel Jaime goes with Iris.

I think Imogen is gorgeous but thinking about having the two same initials does put me off. They would constantly be next to each other in alphabetical order etc at school & I do want them to be seen as individuals.

Whoever said Florence & Mabel - I ADORE these names!! I honestly don't think I'll get Mabel past DH but can try for Florence!

I also love the simplicity of Rose but think Iris & Rose are a bit matchy for twins. Still love Rowan but hear what people are saying about it sounding as if I was naming a boy twin.

So am now at:
Esme
Anna
Eloise
Nell
Amelia
Seren

On the initial thing give twin 2 the name that is first alphabetically so they are Iris and Anna in birth order but Anna and Iris in alphabetical order that way they both get a way of coming first.

Handrearedmagpie · 26/06/2026 23:51

What do people think of Rhiannon? It’s a last minute contender.

Definately planning on doing the reverse initial thing, so twin 2 has first alphabetical name for the reason you suggest!

Congratulations! Beautiful names.

I wouldn't have Anna and this may sound like a silly reason but I do have twins.... You will be doing their names frequently together Anna and Iris, Iris and Anna. The 'and' sounds bad with Anna so I would go for Lara. Also I know a lovely and very beautiful Italian Lara so I love it as a name.

PrincessOfPreschool · 01/07/2026 16:20

Oh no, sorry I saw you went for Anna 😬 🙈
