Twin baby girl names

Handrearedmagpie · 10/06/2026 00:17

34 weeks with non-ID baby girls and struggling for a second name! Would welcome any opinions on our list.

Iris - I adore this & is 100% my favourite by far. I just want another name I love as much! Our shortlist is -

Esme
Eloise
Louisa
Ava (DH's favourite)
Rowan

Middle names we would ideally like to be from family so

Margaret
Josephine
Helena/Helen
Charlotte
James

TIA

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Handrearedmagpie · 10/06/2026 16:56

Ok. I'm thinking James may be hormones at play 🤣 I don't think I'd actually have the nerve to do it, though I always wanted to be called Jaime as a teenager! I just don't feel Jaime goes with Iris.

I think Imogen is gorgeous but thinking about having the two same initials does put me off. They would constantly be next to each other in alphabetical order etc at school & I do want them to be seen as individuals.

Whoever said Florence & Mabel - I ADORE these names!! I honestly don't think I'll get Mabel past DH but can try for Florence!

I also love the simplicity of Rose but think Iris & Rose are a bit matchy for twins. Still love Rowan but hear what people are saying about it sounding as if I was naming a boy twin.

So am now at:
Esme
Anna
Eloise
Nell
Amelia
Seren

@Handrearedmagpie ,Seren is dreadful. It sounds OK if you say it in Welsh but 'Serrun' isn't nice. How about Astrid?

I'd be happy to use Nell.

Myswweetchild · 10/06/2026 17:45

I know twins Iris and Rose, beautiful.
Sylvie ?

Excellentsausages · 10/06/2026 18:19

Ava, Anna and Imogen all lovely.

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 10/06/2026 18:24

Rosa, Alma, Imogen? All beautiful and also strong. Esme feels a bit floppy to me.

I like Nell (as Helena) and Iris.

I love the name Rose, but I do think flower name plus flower name is a bit too cutesy.

motheroftwonotsolittleones · 10/06/2026 18:37

Iris and Esme out of your choices

edited to add middle names

iris Josephine
Esme Charlotte

TheeNotoriousPIG · 10/06/2026 18:47

Initially, I'd have said Iris and Ava (so that you had a favourite name each in there), but personally, I would have preferred Iris and Eloise. Then your DH came back with Anna...

Iris and Anna sound wonderful together!

momtoboys · 10/06/2026 18:51

I have two sets of boy/boy twins. If they had been girls their names would have been Maeve and Maura. I don't really go for the same initial trend, but those were two names I liked.

Firebird83 · 10/06/2026 21:02

Iris and Anna are lovely. Anna and Esther would be great too.

roshi42 · 10/06/2026 21:09

I think Ava is wildly overused but Ava James is about the coolest name for a girl I’ve heard recently! I disagree with pp, James is a great name, girl or boy, and with a more feminine first name would be an excellent middle name. Iris Margaret and Ava James. Can the nice thing about twins be you and your dh get to name one each?

beeble347 · 10/06/2026 21:13

Iris Josephine is fab. What about Ada as an alternative to Ava?

Iris Josephine and Ada Margaret are really gorgeous

flowerworld · 10/06/2026 21:20

Love the name a Iris also!
Ava would be my favourite from your list but I prefer Ida or Ada a lot more and feels like they are from the same sort of era as Iris

MrsM2025 · 10/06/2026 22:42

I have an Esme and my imaginary other DD would be an Iris! So those 2:
Esme Margaret
Iris Josephine

Theresalotgoingon · 10/06/2026 23:09

I have twin girls and remember the advice not to give same initials as it does confuse things as well as gives you a tongue twister when saying their names together (which you will do - a lot!!).

another piece of advice is not go for 2 names that only sound good in one particular order so play around and make sure they sound good flipped around eg Iris and Anna / Anna and Iris

finally Iris is a beautiful name and love it with Esme. You have a sort of alliteration with different initials. Amelia is everywhere but alternatively you could try Emilia. Iris and Emilia / Emilia and Iris sound lovely

good luck I wish I could do it all over again!

ImpracticalMagic · 11/06/2026 08:08

Iris & Esme go beautifully together 🥰

Handrearedmagpie · 11/06/2026 23:30

Thank you all - and glad to hear you would do it again @Theresalotgoingon as getting nervous now! We have now narrowed it down to 3.

Iris Margaret
Anna Charlotte/Josephine (can’t decide which flows better)
Esme Josephine

I feel the 3 names, whilst not matching in a bad way, sort of have the same vibe for twins!

Iris James and Louisa Josephine - My favourite

Iris James and Anna Margaret

Iris Helena and Anna Josephine

I'm not a big fan of Imogen, it doesn't seem to be quite the same as your other ideas. It might be because I know a little girl called Imogen and she's not the nicest little girl!. Although Iris and Immy does sound cute!

Handrearedmagpie · 14/06/2026 00:01

We thought we had mailed it down but today my sister suggested Lara and I think I adore it almost as much as Iris and just as much as Anna. So the final 3 are now

Iris Margaret
Lara Josephine
Anna Charlotte.

Think I'll just need to wait to see what they look like!

Congratulations on your impending birth! It's so exciting and all those names are lovely.

To the whole, full name/known name argument on this thread I will give my only advice as DO NOT name your child one name, known as another and then only use the full name when the child has been naughty and you do the whole, "Graciela Rhubarb Knowles, COME HERE NOW!" I learned that to my peril. Personally, I really wish I'd just gone with the shortened version of his name in the first place. We also went to too many parent teacher conferences where they would call him in his full name and DH and I would be like, "WTF is that?!"

EconomyClassRockstar · 14/06/2026 00:20

And now I really like the name Graciela Rhubarb 😂

pambeesleyhalpert · 14/06/2026 00:41

Eloise and Iris go so well together! Ava and Iris also go really well… what about Ada?? Iris James and Ava/ada Josephine

Els1e · 14/06/2026 01:06

Love Iris and Ava. As both are vowel start names, I would look how the initials work with your surname

KayEmAy · 14/06/2026 23:52

From your list I like-
Rowan Helena and Ava James

Other ideas you may like:

Eden Charlotte
Mia Margaret
Claire Josephine
Georgia Helen
Madeline James - I love the nickname MJ for a girl

Brummiecurlz173 · 21/06/2026 21:13

Alexandra and Esme
Charlotte and Katie
Molly and Lois
Hannah and Amber
Fern and Tatum
