DH and I have very different taste in names, and we're not any closer to having the actual name. Please rank the names on our combined list.

My favourites are Layla and Lydia.

Not keen on Claudette but I love Claudia. Similarly I prefer Etta to Loretta.

Leighton is a boy's name to me.

Least favourites are Alexis, Octavia and Whitney.

I don’t like any, so sorry.

I really like Lydia and Mary is nice but, sorry, not keen on the other names

Then the others are equally bad except for Octavia - which is a car, which has ruined the name for me.

Love Lydia, Elsie, Mary & Octavia. Not keen on the others.

If I heard Leighton, I would assume a boy. It's very clunky on a girl. The rest are fine, Lydia and Mary are the nicest.

Another vote for Lydia or Mary.

Layla second choice but it's way more common

Alexis, Jocelyn, Loretta, Whitney - these seem too 80s to my liking

Claudette - why not
Layla, Elsie - boring
Leighton - surname

Lydia, Jana - these two are the best

Mary - classic, depends on your surname how common it is

Octavia - interesting

I'd choose Lydia but I don't like the others.

I LOVE Alexis. One of my favourite names.
I also really like Whitney and Leighton (in regards to the latter, I’m generally a big fan of what I consider ‘not overly feminine’ girls names. I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but ‘Quinn’ is a good example of what I am talking about!).
Not into Claudette, but I like Collette, or indeed, Claudia.
Octavia is wonderful, but I keep thinking of the number ‘eight’ 😜
Overall, a really solid list of names though!

I'm going to answer slightly differently by guessing which were your DH's choices: Claudette, Jocelyn, Layla and Whitney?

Octavia is best, imo.

Followed by Mary.

Lydia and Mary are the nicest.

Mary, Lydia, Layla in that order. I don't much like any of the others.

Never ask opinions! If you wait till the baby is here and you just announce the name everyone is too polite to say anything other than ‘that’s lovely’ 😂

Whitney is terrible Whitney Houston with her sad druggie life. Layla is also dreadful. Loretta is a fifty year old divorcee in a cowboy hat in the US.

elsie is ok.
