We've found out we are having a girl. These are the current top 2. Thoughts?

I can’t help but think of SpongeBob when I hear the name Pearl.

Worse than that. My mind automatically goes to Pearl Fernandez. It's still a nice name though.

ClareVoiance · 19/01/2026 20:03

Pearl has less chance of being shortened Pearly.

Foggytree · 19/01/2026 20:08

I like Daphne or Dafne

Don't like Pearl at all sorry - bad associations.

Blingismything · 19/01/2026 20:14

Pearl

Onefortheroad25 · 19/01/2026 20:21

I like Pearl but Daphne is pretty awful sorry.

lightningatmidnight · 19/01/2026 20:31

Daphne is beautiful

CJones11 · 19/01/2026 20:33

I LOVE Daphne.

Pearl gets my vote. My beloved grandma was a Ruby and my DH, originally from NZ, has twin girl, great cousins called Ruby and Pearl.

Congratulations x

ApolloandDaphne · 19/01/2026 20:39

I like Daphne but Pearl is horrible in my Scottish accent. It comes out as Peril. It will be fine if you are not in Scotland and don't mix with many Scottish people.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/01/2026 20:59

Don’t like either tbh. Would go with Daphne as its better than Pearl which is bloody awful.

Sid9nie · 19/01/2026 21:03

If you live in Scotland Pearl will always be pronounced Peril.

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/01/2026 21:13

I like Pearl best.

Giraffehaver · 19/01/2026 22:37

Pearl is so pretty

namezchangez · 19/01/2026 22:44

Daphne. Pearl is awful.

user1492757084 · 19/01/2026 23:40

No, neither suit as first names for a human.

Maybe as second names and definitely perfect for pets.

Rainallnight · 20/01/2026 00:04

I love Daphne, and have been raging for many years I didn’t think of it for DD.

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2026 00:20

I adore Daphne, it's wonderful.

I really dislike Pearl as a name.

Tadpolesinponds · 20/01/2026 00:28

They sound extremely old-fashioned. Have they come back into fashion again? I wouldn't, to be honest.

TheSunRisesInTheEast · 20/01/2026 00:39

I'm getting on a bit, so I don't like either of them. They're names that I associate with my friends' mums and grans. There was a new born up the school the other day, pretty little girl, then her mum announced that her name was Olive!! It reminded me of the gormless woman with the thick glasses and buck teeth from "On The Buses" in the 70s. Poor thing 😣 . I don't know where this trend for 40s names has come from. Please let's not resurrect Barbara, Margaret, Eileen, Beryl, Gladys, Sylvia ...

researchers3 · 20/01/2026 00:40

Neither! Sorry op. Wasn't there a daphne in scooby doo?

Could you have one as a middle name maybe?

jocktamsonsbairn · 20/01/2026 00:51

surprised at the other Scottish posters not immediately jumping to Daphne Broon when they hear the name Daphne! But I agree you can’t have Pearl up here due to the pronunciation (Peril) just like Carl becomes Carol!

ClareVoiance · 19/01/2026 20:03

Per 😂
