Ottilie, Octavia...thoughts on these please, and what else? I don't want anything made up, or too modern, or too popular, however pretty (eg Olivia).

How would you pronounce Octavia? Oct-ah-via, or Oct-a-via?

I've heard it both ways, in America and UK.

LadyThompson · 12/06/2008 18:06

Oct-ay-via. Not heard t'other way. It's not really all that poncy, I reckon. Only same amount of syllables as Victoria...Very pretty names Barnstaple, but for a child of more exotic heritage than mine I think.

LuLuBai · 13/06/2008 10:29

LOL Califrau - I used to have an exceptionally beautiful and exceptionally uptight B*tch of a French flatmate called Odile and always used to refer to her as Ordeal (and boy was she!).

That said, I do still really like the name.

Another vote for Ottilie - loved it when pregnant this time but had a boy. Baby names book said it's derived from the French name Odile. Also liked Orla and friends have an Oonagh. Can you tell I found girls' names much easier than boy's?

Blimey, thanks everyone. Still keener on Ottilie and Octavia than anything! What's the betting I end up calling her something completely different...five long months for me to change my mind...anyone picked a name at this stage that they have stuck with?
