Ottilie, Octavia...thoughts on these please, and what else? I don't want anything made up, or too modern, or too popular, however pretty (eg Olivia).

I know a Orchid, she is a cutie.

Was desperate to have Octavia for DC3(although he would have got strange looks in the playground )but finally compromised on Emilia as a girl's name when I drew up behind a Skoda Octavia at some traffic lights while pregnant. Do know an Octavia who is not shortened.

DD2 is a Toyota though ...

Blandmum · 12/06/2008 13:18

Don't call her Ophelia if your surname or Balls or Dick BTW

PuppyMonkey · 12/06/2008 13:20

Just re some earlier posts, the correct spelling is always OONAGH

Sidge · 12/06/2008 13:24

I love Octavia but wasn't brave enough to use it!

I have also heard of an Oceanna, Oriana and Orlaith.

LadyThompson · 12/06/2008 13:24

DP has come up with names I dislike -
Sapphire, Rachel, Saffron, Emma, Charlotte, or Claudette (I think the claw/debt sound makes this one particularly yucky, though it's a good name for a bailiff). He does like Octavia though, so we'll see. I'll show him some of these others.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 12/06/2008 13:26

I like Saffron

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/06/2008 13:28

bundle · 12/06/2008 13:29

I like the way O looks

Aero · 12/06/2008 13:31

"Octavia is lovely, I know of someone born on 08/08/08 who is called that which is a fab story behind a name so if the baby comes on the 8th you should definitely consider it"

We're still in June, or did you mean 1908! (in which case - Wow!)

I like Octavia too. the one I know is also an 8th child and is known as Tavy mainly.

I also like Orianne, Oriana, Orla, Oceane.

LadyThompson · 12/06/2008 13:31

Well, we all have different ways to choose a name, Bundle...I don't think it's all that odd to like the look of names with a certain letter.

DO NOT GO FOR ONAN. Your child could never visit Norway. Ever. (possibly other countries too) It is biblical, by the way. Onan gave name to onanism - masturbation. But I dont remember exact as funnily we did not cover that much during religious education in school. I think he was ordered to have sex with somebody to make an heir, but instead he sort of withdrew and made himself come on the grown.

See, not great associations for a name.

MB, how could you??

LadyThompson · 12/06/2008 13:33

No, I'm wise to Onan. Oddly, I won't be calling her Orange, either...

Onyx
Oksana
Olwen

There are many Nigerian names beginning with O, but they may not be a good ethnic fit for your family?
