Yea or nay as a middle name for Leo?

Looking for something a bit unusual to balance out a short popular first name. Love Zebedee but is it too much?

Family names not an option. Feel free to suggest other ideas (3 syllables or more ideally as surname is also short). TIA

I don't dislike it, but couldn't use it myself.

How about Leo Sullivan?

BlackBeltInOrigami · 01/11/2025 20:12

Vicar: Do you, Leo Zebeedee, take Jane Mary’. No, please don’t do this to your son. Call him Leo Zeb, or Leo Zach/Zachary. Don’t label him with that moniker, middle name or not.

Ladygodalmighty · 01/11/2025 20:28

Zebulon if you must have a "Z" or Gabriel, Bartholomew, Hercules, Nathaniel, Romeo, Valentine all 3 syllables?

ArtfulDenimSheep · 01/11/2025 20:37

Uhohuho · 01/11/2025 08:37

Zebulon? French version of Zebedee?

I love Caspian but you could also go for Sebastian.

Like Zebulon it's really unusual and much better than Zebedee imo

And go the full Magic Roundabout?

Exactly!

I used to joke to DS2 that it’s his real name (it’s not). Prefer the Hebrew version, less Magic Roundabout (think Zebedee is the Greek form) eg, Zebediah or Zevadyah.

Yes. Zebediah is better than Zebedee. It has a completely different vibe.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 01/11/2025 20:52

HarryGrotter · 01/11/2025 17:59

I think it depends on surname as you don’t want his initials to spell something unfortunate! For instance I wanted to call DS1 George Oliver, but our surname begins with a B so he’d have been GOB!

How many words can you think of beginning LZ ….. ?

Sassylovesbooks · 01/11/2025 21:08

Magic Roundabout is my first thought! You're probably way too young to remember this children's show. In all honesty No.

AgentPidge · 01/11/2025 21:40

I met a baby Zebediah recently, which I like. There's also Zechariah. But as has been noted, Zebedee is a New Testament name (so has been around for at least 2000 years) and is a fine name!

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 01/11/2025 23:51

Contacted Alan Partridge about this and he thinks.Zeb should be ditched pronto. A real French Frog Fart name he reckons

He said if it was his boy. He would insert either before or after the name Leo
Felis Leo or Panthera Leo.

The proper genus named.

Or King or Emperor.

Take your pick

WearyAuldWumman · 01/11/2025 23:55

Please God, no.

Yes, it's a Biblical name, but most people know it from The Magic Roundabout.

Nobody under the age of 60 will have heard of Magic Roundabout and the kids of today won't bully because of a name.
I know this because I'm a teacher and a mother, and my children are called Splodge, Biscuit amd Brunch. They've never been teased.

My kids are 20s and very familiar with the magic roundabout as is my 8 year old niece.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/11/2025 00:46

Persephone?

SleepingStandingUp · 02/11/2025 00:48

Oops. Leo not Lea

Thought it odd you'd picked a boys middle name.

Agree with pp, use Zebadiah, it's beautiful

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/11/2025 03:22

I guess he’ll always go to school with a spring in his step.

Star965 · 02/11/2025 03:26

I wouldn’t. I’m 28 and still think magic roundabout! However, as a middle name if you love it I think you would be fine to go for it. Beyond my close family I hardly know what anybody’s middle name is, so it is unlikely to result in bullying as everyone at school, work etc would just know him as Leo.

I would go for a more classic, longer name e.g. Alexander, Dominic, Frederick, Sebastian, William

HarrietsweetHarriet · 02/11/2025 07:27

Donovan is lovely but then I'm a fan of the singer's music. Leo Dylan or any name beginning with D rolls off the tongue nicely.

Ronnybabes · 02/11/2025 09:45

Dougal
Dylan
Brian
all good names. 😀

Nope! But then it’s my Auntie’s cat’s name!

What a great name for a cat. 😃

I am aware that Zebedee is an ancient biblical name, but for me it is forever associated (very strongly) with The Magic Roundabout.

Soo I can't help thinking "time for bed" followed by a huge BOING!! before the evening news came on.

I'm 59 so I am aware that could be in part my generation and children born today would be unlikely to have heard of the show, but I am still not a fan of the sound of it anyway. Loved it on The Magic Roundabout though. Great name for the character he was. 😃🤣

Wishimaywishimight · 02/11/2025 10:13

Istanbol · 01/11/2025 08:34

No. I’m old enough to remember the Magic Roundabout

Same here! A sister named Florence would be nice 😆

bellocchild · 02/11/2025 10:50

Zebediah isn't too bad.

Is this a wind up. I wouldn't inflict either name on my kid.

LividArse · 02/11/2025 12:06

I bloody love Zebedee and it was on my list. See Zeb Soanes.

But Zephyr was high up my list too.

You can see that I was never, ever going to have a kid called Oliver or Amelia...

HugoYorway · 02/11/2025 13:23

It was a joke, @canyouseemyhousefromhere .

@SleepingStandingUp , Leo Persephone?

MummytoE · 02/11/2025 13:24

Might be one of the worst suggestions for a name I've heard
