Thoughts on the name Finch?

No. Think of the child.

I actually quite like it. None of his friends is going to have seen American Pie. Or The Office. (I've seen both, by the way, and didn't think of either. Only Atticus.)

But Finch is fine by itself without formally calling him Finney. As part of a string of endearments in private (Finney-Finn-Finn, Finchkin, Finster, Fincharooney) fair enough, but use his lovely name that you have carefully chosen.

If you like Finney as a nn though I would go for Finn or Finley instead of Finch

I'm not normally an advocate for unusual names, but I don't think Finch is actually all that out there.

Finch is lovely, especially when used with a full name that complements it.
How does Finney sound with those names?

Finch sounds like either a villain or an aged butler in an old movie.

I'm not sure why but to me it sounds like a gynaecologist.

Made me think of Cinch - Ryland & the purple adverts. Finn/ Flynn/ Finley are nicer imo.

Finn is nice but finney doesn’t feel like it would transition well into adulthood.

What are your feelings on Finn op? I'm guessing you have thought of it if you've been exploring those sorts of names. Finney works as a nn, but leaves him with a better-accepted "proper" name.

TBH I've heard worse than Finch though.

I read a book called Chartbreak when I was 12ish about a girl called Janis who joined a rock band and her rock alter ego was called Finch. Has clearly stayed with me as a name! but agree with most of above comments.
