Would probably give him a nickname of Finney

Only if you are naming a pet canary or, a a push, a big boofy tomcat.

StrongandNorthern · 26/10/2025 22:28

Just No.

RaininSummer · 26/10/2025 22:31

Not keen. Finney is marginally worse than Finch but I don't get this actively choosing a nickname thing as the usually evolve themselves.

MrMucker · 26/10/2025 22:31

Once you realize that Finney sounds a bit like an Australian person saying "Fanny", it's hard to unhear. Sorry.

Inertia · 26/10/2025 22:32

Finchy from the office.

Albert Finney.

Finn is a perfectly acceptable name .

Atticus is a much better name op.

Beat me to it.

arlequin · 26/10/2025 22:35

not Atticus!!

JudgeBread · 26/10/2025 22:37

Finney is atrocious. Way too close to fanny.

Finch is bad but at least doesn't sound like slang for genitals.

What's wrong with Finn?

Finn is generally considered a normal regular name these days.
Name him Finn and you can call him Finney.
Finch is a bit odd as a first name.

I agree with this! You could even name him Finley and call him Finn / Finney?

Huntrix · 26/10/2025 22:38

I'm aware of a kid called Finch and everyone was always commenting on the name. Not very positively I'm afraid. It's still better than Finney but I would think American Pie too.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 26/10/2025 22:47

Also thought of The Office as soon as I read your OP.

Agreed

CarpetKnees · 26/10/2025 22:54

Small, pretty bird, or a surname.

Don't do it to the poor boy.

Hfstjsufysyfykdhoxg · 26/10/2025 22:54

Finch is awful.
Finney is unforgivable!

LancashireButterPie · 26/10/2025 22:59

Finney Haddock. 😥.

Call him Finton or Finley then. Finch 🤣

Mamadothehump · 26/10/2025 23:05

Do you really want to be known as Finch’s Mum????

Oh no can’t stand that name!!

Freedomishereandnow · 26/10/2025 23:07

Made me immediately think of American Pie and Stiffler's mum 😂

ZaZathecat · 26/10/2025 23:09

I don't see why not. Everyone seems to like Wren. Pigeon might be a step too far

HoppityBun · 26/10/2025 23:11

Hmmm the chances are fairly high that someone at school would call him a Tit.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 26/10/2025 23:15

Why not just use Finley, Finlay or Finn. You can still use the nickname Finney.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 26/10/2025 23:16

Has the OP saying Atticus is pretentious scared you off that?! I think she'd be equally damming about Finch...

I think you're better off with Finlay. Or Atticus.

thegoat2 · 26/10/2025 23:16

It sounds very harsh and unpleasant to my ears when said out loud. And Chris Finch from The Office was a wanker.

Just go with Finn.

DiscoBeat · 26/10/2025 23:16

Sounds like yet another surname for a first name. Fine if it has special family connections
