Girl name - Navy

Is the girl name ‘Navy’ just a bit nuts?

When I first heard it I thought it was ridiculous, but now I kind of like it. The thought of shouting ‘Navy’ across the park is a bit silly though isn’t it?

God no.

Flannelfeet · 06/08/2025 20:47

Hopefully your second name isn't blue.

ImAPreMadonna · 06/08/2025 20:49

A UK influencer / reality star has named her 2nd or 3rd daughter this.

DinaofCloud9 · 06/08/2025 20:51

It's a bit weird but I've heard worse.

Todayistuesdayxxxxxx · 06/08/2025 20:51

My daughter said she loved the name Navy i think it's horrendous.
Maybe ok for a dog or cat but a child.........😂

”In the Navy,
Yes, you can sail the seven seas,
In the Navy,
Yes, you can put your mind at ease”

Haven’t read the thread, but I’m guessing a fair few people have this in their heads. In theory Navy should be like Scarlet, Amber, Red, Indigo ie. usable like many colour “names”, if perhaps uncommon. But in reality Navy is also like naming your kid Army and just invites potential teasing imo.

Well no, because it really is named after the Navy. It’s ’Navy blue’. Violet and Lilac are flower names which also have colours named after them, it’s like that but an armed force not a pretty plant!

SeeTown · 06/08/2025 21:00

I think it’s pretty. I know someone with a daughter called Navy, it’s not that “out there”

luckylavender · 06/08/2025 21:02

In France Marine is a very popular name

Radiatorvalves · 06/08/2025 22:08

If she joined the Navy she could be Lieutenant Navy Smith Royal Navy.

Do you have military connections?

HappySummerDays · 06/08/2025 18:31

I know kids called Grey or Gray.
Lots of girls are called Violet.

Violet is for the flower, like Rose or Poppy.

Yeah but Bleu Marin isn't ...

Calliopespa · 06/08/2025 22:42

In answer to your question op, yes, to me it is a little bit nuts.

One worse option would be to add a second v and have navvy - a road construction labourer.

I just don't think it has got much going for it tbh.

And names like Violet are for flowers. This is more like calling someone Green or Yellow or Duck Egg Blue. Or, if you think of the navy, what about Airforce?

legoplaybook · 06/08/2025 22:43

I've met a Navy - I wouldn't use it myself but actually think it's really cute!

I think this one was short for Navayah though (a mispelling of Nevaeh/Heavan backwards).
