Is Connie Clyde a nice name?

We have been using the name Connie for our baby girl bump most of the pregnancy and I really love it however I am worried that it doesn’t go with our surname Clyde.
is it too similar to the Bonnie & Clyde reference or do you think people will not associate the two?
we are thinking middle name Mae. Are surnames really that important to consider?

You can’t call her that.

Thinking that I had a gap in my general knowledge, I looked online to find out who Bonnie Blue was. Wish I hadn't.

Lovely name but the association is far too strong. The film is considered to be a classic too so it's unlikely to go away.

How about River, Strath or Right-Turn instead?

Strath was on my shortlist for the puppy!

No. Bonnie & Clyde as every other PP has said. But also - I don't get the appeal of Connie. It makes me think of conning people.

Blueuggboots · 07/07/2025 16:55

Calliope, Cassandra, Clara, Clarissa, Camilla, Cameron, Cassiopeia…

boathouserocks · 07/07/2025 18:37

Automatic association with Bonnie and Clyde for me too I'm afraid....

ThatSassyBrickDeer · 08/07/2025 18:08

I thought this was a wind up when I saw the title. You could safely use Constance as a middle name but no to Connie.

Catcatcat111 · 08/07/2025 18:10

Sorry, thought bonnie and clyde when I read your title.

YetAnotherNewNameAgain · 08/07/2025 18:11

Just about EVERY girl has a middle name like Mae.

KayEmAy · 08/07/2025 20:54

It's not a nice name, I am so sorry. If you really love it, I'd say middle name max.

anotherwordforit · 08/07/2025 21:04

I love the suggestion of Callie

Needspaceforlego · 09/07/2025 04:21

Sorry Callie isnt much better. As a shortening of Caledonian and lots of things being Caledonian,
Callie Clyde could end up sounding like a football game, Inverness Caly vs Clyde

The Cally is also one of Glasgows Unis. The Clyde goes through Glasgow.

upandleftthenright · 09/07/2025 04:22

Dukes of Hazzard tinge to it

Mae is terrible. Sorry op.

NoWomanNoBuy · 09/07/2025 09:10

No, don't do that to your child.

ParmaVioletTea · 09/07/2025 09:16

Nope, it's not a "nice" name. Although Constance is lovely.

I really despair of this practice of burdening children with the casual contraction of a longer name, instead of giving children the longer name and within family & friends, using the shortening. Then when your DC is looking for a serious job, for example, she can choose to use her long formal name - it can make a difference in terns of presentation or first impressions.

Charlotte120221 · 09/07/2025 16:27

I know 2 Connies - one has a sister called Arabella and the other a sister called Tabitha. Are either of those names any good?

Otherwise, similar names might be Callie, Cassie, Coco....
