Is Connie Clyde a nice name?

We have been using the name Connie for our baby girl bump most of the pregnancy and I really love it however I am worried that it doesn’t go with our surname Clyde.
is it too similar to the Bonnie & Clyde reference or do you think people will not associate the two?
we are thinking middle name Mae. Are surnames really that important to consider?

I usually love alliterative names but it does immediately make me think ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ sorry

Morgenrot25 · 06/07/2025 23:44

River wouldn't be a great choice either.

marshmallowfinder · 06/07/2025 23:46

Not good unfortunately. Also the Mae is absolutely done to death as a filler middle name, like Rose or Grace. Hyphen Mae is even worse. Fae/Fay is a whole lot more original and prettier.

Bonnie blue and jekyll and hide

YourWinter · 06/07/2025 23:57

Nobody will ever use her middle name, she’d have a lifetime of people taking the mickey out her name sounding like Bonnie and Clyde. Of course the surname matters when gining a child a first name.

LucasBuck · 07/07/2025 00:08

I don’t get the Bonnie Blue thing (am aware who she is but just wouldn’t make the association) and at first I didn’t make the Bonnie and Clyde reference either - I just thought “Oh Connie Clyde is pretty alliteration”.

BUT once you do hear Bonnie and Clyde, you can’t unhear it imo- so I’m sorry OP I think it’s a no no. Constance Clyde might be okay, then she can choose if she wants to use Connie or not - that way it will be her decision if she wants to potentially put up with jokes.

Maybe if you can work out what you like most about Connie people could suggest something with similar vibes - maybe Callie or Molly? Or Mae Clyde is very pretty imo.

AtrociousCircumstance · 07/07/2025 00:16

Quite apart from the Bonnie and Clyde thing, Connie Clyde doesn’t flow well at all.

SnowFrogJelly · 07/07/2025 00:17

No!

Poonu · 07/07/2025 00:20

No

Ellmau · 07/07/2025 00:21

Adding Mae in the middle makes it sound even more American

Charliecatpaws · 07/07/2025 01:10

No no no

crumblingschools · 07/07/2025 01:19

Sounds a really harsh name even without Bonnie & Clyde connection

jowana223 · 07/07/2025 03:23

nice

Marcipix · 07/07/2025 05:09

Definitely not. Everyone will make the Bonnie and Clyde association.

Connie is a name I personally don’t like.
If you want an alliterative name, what about Clara, Ciara, Cressida?

FlamingoFloss · 07/07/2025 05:15

Definitely not, sorry

what about Cadence Clyde

Needspaceforlego · 07/07/2025 05:19

Connie is lovely but sorry not with Clyde.

Trying to think of similar but not Connie, and ended up with Ronnie, R. Clyde which isnt any better and another no (as well as being a boys name). So avoid R names and Connie,

What about
Bryonie
Jenny / Jeannie / Jennifer
Penny
Toni

WaltzingWaters · 07/07/2025 05:25

Sorry, immediately thought Bonnie and Clyde too.

Gumbo · 07/07/2025 05:28

😂Lol at Connie Clyde! Please tell me her middle name will be Andi?

Definitely stick to a name that doesn't start with a B or rhyme with Bonnie or you'll be setting her up for a very tedious life of people making silly jokes about her name.

JillyGiraffe · 07/07/2025 05:30

How about:

Callie Clyde
Lily Clyde
Daisy Clyde
Daniella Clyde
Bryony Clyde
Nancy Clyde
Isabel Clyde

autumngirl714 · 07/07/2025 08:39

I honestly don't see the big deal. Her generation (who she'll grow up with) won't care less about Bonnie and Clyde. If I asked my 8 or 5 year old who they are they wouldn't care or know to even notice it in school. In fact my children probably couldn't even tell you their friends surnames 😂

You could always use Connie as a middle name if you are bothered by it. I do think Connie is such a sweet name.

user1492757084 · 07/07/2025 08:55

It's a bad choice. Choose another name.

YYYDlilah · 07/07/2025 09:26

we are thinking middle name Mae. Are surnames really that important to consider?

Of course they are. Would you name your child Bryony Alice if your surname was Boone?

ChocolateGanache · 07/07/2025 09:56

No, no and no again.
Sorry OP, but you did ask.

ChocolateGanache · 07/07/2025 09:57

Surely the whole name would be Constance. But still no.

TokyoSushi · 07/07/2025 09:57

Gosh no.
