First name Pallace for a girl?

I just finished reading Tom Lake by Ann Patchett and love the name Pallace, and also the character she was associated with. Since we're in Europe as well as Asia, this name works well for both places.

But what do you think of the name Pallace?

No

DaveWatts · 18/06/2025 07:33

As in palace but with weird spelling? I wouldn't, personally.

Started17June2025 · 18/06/2025 07:33

How do you pronounce it? Pal-iss?

Not keen sorry.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 18/06/2025 07:34

It's entirely up to you, but if you're soliciting opinion, my thought was 'absolutely not'.

Enko · 18/06/2025 07:35

Im usually for uncommon names but this one is a no from me. Too close to Palace.

FrenchandSaunders · 18/06/2025 07:35

Please don’t!

Lins77 · 18/06/2025 07:35

Never heard of it as a name. Everyone will just think Palace and wonder why you named your child after a royal building.

merrymelody · 18/06/2025 07:35

Pal-Ass?

KvotheTheBloodless · 18/06/2025 07:36

Sorry OP, it's a tragedeigh.

ArtsShmartsy · 18/06/2025 07:36

I like it.

Nickname Buckingham!

No!

HedwigIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/06/2025 07:37

I’ve never heard of the literary reference - immediately thought Buckingham too. Not even a particularly nice name 😬

Snugglemonkey · 18/06/2025 07:38

It just doesn't feel like a name.

No, that is an awful name

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/06/2025 07:39

Never heard of it. Which European countries do you think it works in?

AmelieSummer25 · 18/06/2025 07:39

Pregnancy hormones. You should have to have sorted names before you get pregnant.

might as well call her Buckingham.

ZImono · 18/06/2025 07:39

No.

it's prob pregnancy hormones.
I was obsessed with Tiberius and Aelius 🥴

fear not: they werent sepected in the end
This too shall pass.

TheaBrandt1 · 18/06/2025 07:39

Are you mid pregnancy? I came up with some absolute corkers at that stage. My now teens are horrified at what I considered calling them.

upandleftthenright · 18/06/2025 07:39

Awful.

No to Pallace.

God no. It looks like you’ve tried to name a child “Palace” and spelled it wrong. Don’t like Palace or Pallace.

TheaBrandt1 · 18/06/2025 07:40

Mine was Augusta Lark. Everyone else hated it (rightly so with hindsight). Dd1 is quiet low key and studious and would have hated being called Augusta Lark!

PrettyParrot · 18/06/2025 07:41

She will forever be Crystal to me.

Stolenyouth · 18/06/2025 07:41

Also reading that book and agree the character is great. But no. What would the short version be? Pal? Pally? Paloma is good.
