First name Pallace for a girl?

I just finished reading Tom Lake by Ann Patchett and love the name Pallace, and also the character she was associated with. Since we're in Europe as well as Asia, this name works well for both places.

But what do you think of the name Pallace?

Sounds like Paris who has a speech impediment

Skandar · 18/06/2025 14:07

Like Alice with a P?

Def go with Balonz for the sibling.

MannequinsArePeopleToo · 18/06/2025 14:17

No.

Are you mid pregnancy? I came up with some absolute corkers at that stage. My now teens are horrified at what I considered calling them.

My DS was amused to find out he was “definitely” going to be a Ricky or a Stevie or a Marty ( mid 1980s era. )

My girls choices made his father pull 😵‍💫 faces…Something really does happen hormone-wise to generally sensible woman during pregnancy!

Paloma

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 19/06/2025 18:39

I don't think so. Sorry.

Pennyswimsplash · 19/06/2025 18:40

Awful name

Sandy420 · 19/06/2025 19:10

Don't do it OP. If I heard that name I'd be thinking are they named after the building or the cat? It's fine for a character in a book but please give your child a proper name.

Stowickthevast · 19/06/2025 21:53

Interesting. I listened to Tom Lake on Audible read by the amazing Meryl Streep, and just assumed it was Pallas like Pallas Athene. I can see what you'd want to name a child after the woman in the book though, she's very cool.

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 19/06/2025 22:16

Horrible

PlumpAndCircumstance · 19/06/2025 22:53

Use Crystal instead

Justhere65 · 19/06/2025 22:53

No.

mathanxiety · 19/06/2025 23:59

Lovely, but spell it Pallas. That is a real (ancient Greek) name.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 20/06/2025 00:03

The name does not work well in Europe - unless you already have a son called Prinze, in which case there is no hope for you.

I don’t like the c word OP, but in this case..

PP’s suggestion of Paloma is good

I think Athene would be a great deal easier

uncomfortablydumb60 · 20/06/2025 00:21

No

JustSawJohnny · 20/06/2025 00:31

Immediate thought - Crystal.

Enough4me · 20/06/2025 00:34

Chinese takeaway?

marshmallowpuff · 20/06/2025 00:48

I also thought Pallas as in Pallas Athena, but definitely a no to Pallace, OP. sorry!

FrodoBiggins · 20/06/2025 00:49

Sounds like you're still buzzing from the FA Cup final to be honest

SnowFrogJelly · 20/06/2025 00:49

Pallace 😂

DiscoBeat · 20/06/2025 00:54

I would think the parents are massive Crystal Palace fans

Devianinc · 20/06/2025 00:57

How about no. You might not like the book in a few years.

Overtheatlantic · 20/06/2025 01:46

I think Pallas would be lovely, as others have mentioned Pallas Athena.
