First name Pallace for a girl?

I just finished reading Tom Lake by Ann Patchett and love the name Pallace, and also the character she was associated with. Since we're in Europe as well as Asia, this name works well for both places.

But what do you think of the name Pallace?

I have a very rare name for the UK, so does my child, and I’m usually all for unusual names, as in Classic or Greek mythology names, unusual and quirky nature names or names that work in different countries etc…however unless Pallace has a sentimental meaning or is pronounced differently in the country you’ll be living in, even I am a bit torn ! Each to their own however, my opinion is my own. Your child. It’s not rude or abusive or offensive, just not a nice name in how it would be pronounced by most in the U.K.

FlourishNotPerish · 18/06/2025 07:41

How do you think it “would work” in Europe?! I’m intrigued and suspect this is a joke post.

SallyDraperGetInHere · 18/06/2025 07:42

How about as a middle name? With Alexandra, or Krystle?

ZiggyPlaysGuitarrr · 18/06/2025 07:44

It's horrible, sorry.

Sulking · 18/06/2025 07:46

I don’t like it personally but I don’t expect anyone would be brave enough to say it to your face after the fact so do as you please. Who cares what other people think.

Itallcomesdowntothis · 18/06/2025 07:47

Absolutely not. Not a name but a royal building. That kid is in for a lifetime of teasing, misspelling and frankly as an adult applying for jobs I would look at and wonder why you did that to your child.

Naming a baby isn’t a game or an opportunity to make a point. That kid has to live with that name for life. Please try again.

I like it.

Nickname Buckingham!

No!

I assumed nickname Crystal. But there are so many nickname options!

Also strong NO.

Olika · 18/06/2025 07:52

Horrible

PomeloOud · 18/06/2025 07:52

Dreadful.

EggMonster · 18/06/2025 07:54

As in Pallas Athene? I agree with pps that she’d be nicknamed Buck House, Ally Pally or Crystal.

Ddakji · 18/06/2025 07:56

Terrible.

Whet about Pallas? As in Pallas Athene.

IberianBlackout · 18/06/2025 07:56

lmao no 😭

sugarapplelane · 18/06/2025 08:03

I think you’re having a laugh

No, no, no, no, no

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/06/2025 08:06

It'll be misheard as Alice.

ApoodlecalledPenny · 18/06/2025 08:09

Third person who has come along to say Pallas as in Athene would be a better spelling as it references classical mythology, and doesn’t look like a spelling mistake. But, I’m not sure it works in the wild tbh

Koazy · 18/06/2025 08:09

Awful. Sorry.

DiamondThrone · 18/06/2025 08:09

I love it. But I would expect it to be spelled Pallas.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/06/2025 08:10

I would assume you supported Crystal Palace and roll My eyes I’m afraid. I’m really not keen sorry.

Pinty · 18/06/2025 08:12

Sorry no, some names that work in fiction just don't work in real life.
A palace is a building but not a person

BoudiccaRuled · 18/06/2025 08:13

How about Alexandra as a first name, Pallace as middle name?

Neemie · 18/06/2025 08:14

I think it would be come across to many as similar to Princezz or Qween and they might assume she had thick parents.

Westfacing · 18/06/2025 08:19

Pallas yes

Pallace no - it just doesn't work with that spelling, in real life

BangersAndGnash · 18/06/2025 08:20

I haven’t read the book so never heard of it.

And think it odd, a non-spelling of Palace or Pallas (which in Greek classics is more often male) , and not with an attractive sound.

MoistVonL · 18/06/2025 08:21

PrettyParrot · 18/06/2025 07:41

She will forever be Crystal to me.

😂😂😂

AnneMarieW · 18/06/2025 08:22

No. It will get misspelt as Palace like the building and misheard as Paris as that’s better known as a name.

Imo it’s okay to use Pallace as a fun/quirky middle name if you love it that much (as I always think middle names are pointless unless they are something special to the parents or honour names) - but don’t give her a first name that will be a hassle for her.
