Yes, they are dreadful.

Comedycook · 19/03/2025 17:32

I don't particularly like them but I've heard worse.

I like Roscoe, but don't think I like it enough to use it. Harris is OK, Franklin I don't like, but can admit it's not bad name.
My favorite out of your list is Roscoe, but I do like it. I just like other names better.

aintnospringchicken · 19/03/2025 17:36

I’m not keen on Franklin or Roscoe.
I like Harris and know a couple of wee boys with that name.

fruitbrewhaha · 19/03/2025 17:37

I’m not keen.

Roscoe = dukes of hazard for me.

craigth162 · 19/03/2025 17:37

Harris is a popular name here

Anothername123 · 19/03/2025 17:38

Yes they are awful sorry. What’s wrong with normal names that are actually names?

Enko · 19/03/2025 17:38

No they are not dreadful. I wouldn't blink if I was introduced to a child called any of them. Nor would I use them myself but they are not dreadful

ThreeMagicNumber · 19/03/2025 17:38

I like Harris and Rosco not with an e but it doesn't matter what other people think, it's your child and people's opinions on mumsnet really aren't important.

Offtobuttonmoontovisitmrspoon · 19/03/2025 17:41

Not my cup of tea! What does your Dh like?

Charcadet · 19/03/2025 17:41

Dukes of Hazard for the last one. Franklin is the name of a famous preacher and avid Trump supporter. Harris is a tweed.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/03/2025 17:44

I like Harris & Rosco. Not keen on Franklin.

DuckyLuck · 19/03/2025 17:45

Yes, they’re dreadful. But that’s just my opinion and what does it matter to you? Babies grow into their names, I promise!

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 19/03/2025 17:47

Harris is meh and the other two are awful. Nobody grows into a name like Roscoe.

Busted2006 · 19/03/2025 17:47

I actually love Franklin

Marylou2 · 19/03/2025 17:47

fruitbrewhaha · 19/03/2025 17:37

I’m not keen.

Roscoe = dukes of hazard for me.

Me too!!! What was the fat Bassett Hound called? Perhaps OP could go with that. Think it was a girl though.

MontanaPink · 19/03/2025 17:47

Harris is okay. Do you like American-sounding names? If so, I think there are better names out there.

muddyford · 19/03/2025 17:48

I know a greyhound called Harris and a spaniel called Roscoe. Franklin used to be our coal merchant's surname. Not names I would choose for my boy.

SwedishEdith · 19/03/2025 17:50

They're not the worst I've heard - they fall into the category of I'd find it hard to not show my opinion if a potential grandchild name. But you can't use them if you can't agree.

Jennifershuffles · 19/03/2025 17:50

Sounds like a firm of solicitors

EverySaturday · 19/03/2025 17:50

I like Harris and Franklin. Not keen on Roscoe.

menopausalmare · 19/03/2025 17:51

All awful. Call him Tom, he'll thank you.

I'm usually on the 'dreadful' side with last name/surname type names, but I actually quite like Harris and Rosco (prefer no e). I don't like Franklin. Rosco would very likely be shortened to Ross though, which I'm not so keen on.

Shitmonger · 19/03/2025 18:09

Roscoe is awful unless you’re some breed of hound dog, in which case it’s perfectly acceptable. Particularly if you are a variety of coonhound in the American South, such as Georgia (or so I imagine 😂).

Harris and Franklin are fine I guess. He could always go by Harry or Frank.
