Being as you ask, then yes, they are.

Are you going to show your dh this thread ? Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 19/03/2025 19:34

Awful. They’re all a bit…..meh and forgettable or names for dogs. Whatever happened to names like Michael, Joseph or Christopher.

Hoppinggreen · 19/03/2025 19:34

I don't like them to be honest

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/03/2025 19:35

I like them all.

The Harris I know is extremely far from "chavvy"!

PurpleChrayn · 19/03/2025 19:36

They’re not great.

BrandNewHeretic · 19/03/2025 19:36

They're not my cup of tea but they're certainly not dreadful

avocadotofu · 19/03/2025 19:53

I don’t really like them I’m afraid.

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/03/2025 19:57

I mean they are not names that I would ever have chosen but then its not my child! Have to agree that Roscoe made me think of DoH too, but thats probably me showing my age!

The issue is that your husband doesnt like them so you need to find a compromise. What sort of names does he like? Could you post his preferred names and perhaps we can help you come up with some names that you both like?

soontobeamama · 19/03/2025 20:13

Harris is very popular in Scotland now.

It’s my favourite name of the three you’ve listed.

Iggilypiggily · 19/03/2025 20:24

Nooo! I think you shouldn’t ask for peoples opinions of names if you can’t cope with the response as some people are so abrupt in their delivery! But I don’t think they are awful! I love unique names and all of them can be shortened to something a little less unique should the kid decide they want that. What does your husband propose for a name?

WildCherryBlossom · 19/03/2025 20:36

I really like Rosco. DH vetoed it on the grounds of Dukes of Hazzard (which I have never seen). Harris I quite like too - I’ve known a couple of them - both Scottish.

Franklin just makes me think D Roosevelt.

AnotherHappyCamper · 19/03/2025 20:38

Sorry, I'm not keen on any of those.

YourWinter · 19/03/2025 20:40

I used to like Emperor Roscoe but no, these aren’t nice Christian names.

Orphlids · 19/03/2025 21:00

I have a close elderly relative whose middle name is Rosco - he is gentry, so for me the name sounds quite posh. I think as it gains more in popularity, it may well develop into a name that some might describe as… er… the opposite of posh. For what it’s worth, he really loves his name and clearly thinks it’s quite cool. I think it sounds quite cool too. I think I’d quite like to be named Rosco if I were a man. Other than my relative, I only know of dogs with the name.

Franklyn comes from Medieval English, doesn’t it? I do like a name with a bit of history behind it. It’s fine.

Harris is a bit boring I think. And Rolf is too recent.

AnotherHappyCamper · 19/03/2025 21:02

Franklin is better than the other two, by quite a long way.

Babyenroute · 19/03/2025 21:04

No! I like them all 😀 DH said no to Roscoe her too. We have a close friend with a baby Harris or else it would have been a contender

RandomUsernameHere · 19/03/2025 18:48

Franklin is lovely and so are the shortened versions Frank or Frankie.

For an 82 year old man, yes

ItsStillWork · 19/03/2025 21:12

If you like surname names then how about…

Harrison
Grayson
Jameson
Fraser
Preston

Neweverything25 · 19/03/2025 21:15

Franklin is not too bad but ideally you should think of a name that you both like

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/03/2025 21:19

I think they sound very American, but maybe I’m old fashioned.

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 19/03/2025 21:23

Baninarama · 19/03/2025 18:45

Not keen on Harris - 'Arris is cockney rhyming slang for arse! Maybe I'm just of a certain age and grew up in a certain area though...

I was thinking the same thing but wondered if it wasn't very widely known these days.

I'm not keen on any of them but if I had to choose it would be Rosco, but I prefer Frank, or any other non-surname name.

Dragonsandcats · 19/03/2025 21:25

I’m not particularly keen but I’m sure you wouldn’t like my kids names! They’re not awful.

LaughingCat · 19/03/2025 21:27

Not loving them, but then my aunt has had two dogs called Franklin and Harris. Lovely chocolate labs 😂. I might offer up Roscoe for her next puppy, as I think it would be right up her street as well!

2pence · 19/03/2025 21:31

Isn’t a Harris slang for arse?

Bournetilly · 19/03/2025 21:32

Franklin is cute.
